Its absolute rubbish and to think they steal a licence fee out of us for that rubbish. They should be in jail.

It is an extremely poor Christmas as far as TV is concerned. Anything that is watchable is on at the only time there is something good on the other side. There are so many repeats it's unbelievable. Dracula, Doctor Who, Torchwood and never mind the buzzcocks are the only things on over Christmas I would actually like to watch. It would be lovely if there was a good variety of new things to see. Maybe one of the people in charge of TV will see a message on here and try to make up for this with a good line up next year.

Good job TV isn't the one thing we rely on for a good Christmas. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Christmas television is always rubbish at Christmas as its impossible to fulfill what people expect out of Christmas, people moan about it every year its a British tradition, if for some miraculous reason it was good people would be dissapointed and still complain what would people say to each other once the festivities were over its part of the traditional Christmas comments like ' when asked did you have a good Chritmas general expected reply "yes nice and quiete, means no it was boring then go on to complain about the telly because its the only thing they had to enterrtain them.

ITV should have done their Back to the Future triliogy over 24, 25 and 26 instead of 27, 28, 29 as I think it is... Not not much on that is worth watching. Couple of bits I might watch are standard stuff such as Torchwood (which I thought was going to be rubbish and probably would be apart from the actress that plays Gwen), to be fair though, I've really enjoyed what I've watched of it - Doctor Who is okay, but goes too fast and no real story throughout and has become soaplike, plus is a bit young based obviously. Nothing like Jon Pertwee - my favourite. Torchwood though has worked so far. Been some good ideas in there and been an enjoyable 45 minutes. Doesn't feel like someone has to get trapped, nearly killed and rescued all in 45mins.

I think Doctor Who should be less monsters and more story with a few episodes carrying over. I didn't watch all of it as I got bored with the story being so rushed. That Cyberman and Dalek bit had potential to be three good episodes at the minimum, but was too rushed and resolved too quickly. I hate that. Good shows spoilt by rushing the story.

Anyway, most TV is rubbish, not just about TV anymore but also generating profits. I tend to watch more DVDs than I do TV these days, no advertisements, no Simon Cowell and I can watch when I want (currently I'm on Quantum Leap). Plus if you get a dvd and monitor, don't need a TV licence as no tuner - do this and make a stand!!!

This is what I plan if I ever move away - hence been collecting my favourite series and cartoons. http://www.play.com/

News consists of a lot of evil crap I don't need to know. They do what they want anyway, let them get on with it and stop brainwashing me into acceptance.

Chicken Run is in Virgin for £3.99 and similarly other films to buy or rent. Couple of good films on the Freeview channels might watch that not seen yet, strangely, these are AFTER the Christmas period.

Nice omnibus of Torchwood on New Years Day, plus may watch a little Deal or No Deal to see if it is rigged so someone wins £500,000 as it is Christmas. Probably done so get more phone competition competitors though as also doubled the prize there? There must be a reason for £500,000. They can't give away £250,000 and even then it has to be in the box to have the chance of giving it away, so I'm betting it will be in their box even though they have an adjudicator. Whether they choose it though...cos the gamble could be huge or small depending if they want the contestant to gamble and win for publicity. This show can easily be manipulated. And if the contestants don't know that £500,000 is in the £250,000 box then I suggest they read the paper! Oh it's pre-recorded? So it isn't Christmas Eve there in the studio afterall then?

Only Fools and Horses was great, but been shown to death. I were expecting us to be subjected to The green, green, grass or whatever it is. All the best comedy series have finished now, such as OFAH, MBB, OFITG etc... Repeats have no appeal.

Cheap Christmas tv would be one off's of Have I Got News For You and suchlike. Least that is funny, sometimes. Who wants to watch EastEnders misery on Christmas Day. A lot of people, obviously.

To 'bezza' below:
Dracula: Thurs 28 Dec BBC1 9pm - No thanks.
Doctor Who: Christmas day BBC1 7pm - Maybe ok. Not great.
I like Doctor Who classic, but the new Who is a bit too jazzed up for me and sometimes a bit rushed. It needs Derren Brown to come on as The Master. :)
The Ruby in the Smoke: Wed 27 Dec BBC1 8:30pm - nope
Little Britain Abroad: Christmas Day/ Sat 30 Dec BBC1 -10:30/9:15 - Childish in places. I like Lou and Andy sketch, but a lot of it is just too tacky. Are we being dumbed down?
Jam and Jerusalem: Boxing Day/ Sat 30 Dec BBC1 9:45 both nights - dull
My Family: Christmas Day BBC1 5:20pm - Very childish!!!
Suggestion, next year, the hilarious My Hero Christmas Special for 2hrs. ITV then have a chance to steal.
The Vicar of Dibley: Christmas Day/ New Year's Day BBC1 9;30 both nights - has been good in the past, but like OFAH the sitcom is old now. Lost it's originality.
Ugly Betty: Friday 5 Jan C4 9:30 (more suitable for teens) - nope
Perfect Parents: Thurs 28 Dec ITV1 9:00pm - nope

Absolutely - but no change there really.

Looking forward to:

The 'Peter and the Wolf' animation tomorrow (takes me back to my childhood!)
The 'Ruby in the Smoke'
Little Britain Abroad
The Vicar of Dibley

There are a couple of films on in January:

The Importance of Being Earnest - a classic!
Sense and Sensibility

I will be OK though - as I am only back in the UK for 6 weeks of the year, my lovely Mum has taped all the CSI's (NY, Miami & Vegas) and Will & Grace; so I have got plenty to keep me entertained!

Christmas television is continually garbage except for the uncomplicated exception. The manufacturers seem to imagine that any one needs to video reveal tacky videos or huge-spread variety shows. there have been one or 2 exciting documentaries and the Royal company Christmas Lectures are continually good IMO. One respectable yet aggravating movie, The Magdelene Sisters.

i agree its such a shame because its the only time of the year when you can watch tv without having to get up for work in the morning, most of the programmes are either repeats or have seen them on dvd throughout the year, what dross and rubbish the bbc should be ashamed of themselves asking us to pay a tv licence

Its not too bad as there is that doctor who special and Narnia, a great one for the kids but there could be a bit more. Anyway many people just celebrate christmas with a party so there really isn't any time to watch tv. Merry crimbo

Well if there is nothing on worth watching, do something different. It isn't compulsory to sit glued to the television like an old person with dementia in a nursing home. Pull out all your old videos, dvd, cd;s tapes, give them a good airing, any that you don't want to watch, send them to a charity shop. If the weather isn't too bad, get your coat on and go for a long long walk, visit relatives or friends. Stop moaning, and start to enjoy life.
