I'm 9 weeks pregnant, and as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I cut out caffeine completely. I've seen questions here regarding people drinking coffee while pregnant. Is that okay to do? I don't want to drink a lot of coffee or anything like that. Just a little tea or a pepsi here and there. Is that safe???

I think I may hold off on having any caffeine. I was really wondering because I was at Olive Garden with some friends last night and I really wanted some of their peach iced tea.. but its caffeinated, so I couldn't have it. I really like fruity teas, but most of them have caffeine. Unfortunately, I don't have my first doctors appt. until after the 1st, so I'll most likely hold off on the caffeine until I hear from the doctor.

Thanks again for your answers!

Yes, it's pretty safe, a cup of coffee per day here and a Pepsi there shouldn't be of major concern.

"Safety of caffeine consumption during pregnancy is controversial. Some studies suggest that modest caffeine intake of less than two average cups (defined below) of coffee per day presents a slight risk to the embryo or fetus, but others do not. There is stronger evidence that larger daily amounts of caffeine during pregnancy may increase the risks of miscarriage, preterm delivery and low birth weight, but no solid proof."

by one of my baby books it is safe to drink UP to 200mg of caffeine a day.

Heres the breakdown from the book
Coffee,5oz Average range
brewed,percolator 115 60-180
brewed, drip method 80 40-170
instant 65 30-120
Tea,5oz
brewed, imported 60 25-110
brewed, US brands 40 20-90
instant 30 25-50
iced tea (12 oz) 70 67-76
SOft drinks,12oz 36 30-50
cocoa, 5oz 4 2-20
chocholate milk, 8oz 5 2-7
semisweet chocholate,1oz 20 5-35
milk chocolate, 1oz 6 1-15
chocolate syrup 4 4-5

SO hope that charts help you out. It also mentioned 500mg of caffeine a day affects the fetus so I know some days I might go over slightly but not too much.

A couple of cups a day are okay but I found that I could not even smell coffee when I was pregnant.

I think tea is much better for you and has a lot less caffeine per cup brewed

ask your doctor he/she will be the one to give you the best answer to that. now as long as you drink coffee, pepsi in a very moderate way you shouldn't have any problems but remember the more caffeine you take the more chances are that your child will most of the time will not sleep at night and keep you awake all night long. trust me.

You can drink caffeine just make sure you drink lots of water too. I drank nothing but diet Pepsi or water when I was prego. Also if you do drink a soda in the morning it might upset your stomach.

For the sake of you and your baby PLEASE DO NOT DRINK CAFFEINE. I am saying this because we have a family friend and his wife. She was pregnant and my mom told her not to drink caffeine that the babies(Twins)would become hipper and they would move around too much and that is how the umbilical cord get round their neck. She did not listen. Now her twins are hipper active, one of them has ADD and the girl has speak problems. DON'T TRY IT.

I would limit the amount of caffeine that you consume but having some is quite alright.
