Yes you do need to go to counseling...but you also need to try and befriend your new neighbor and let her know that there is a way out. Sometimes (and I have been there) the best counseling is helping other people through what has happened to you. You do have a reason to be scared, once hurt the pain stays. Bruises go away, mental scars are there forever. If you help her it will help YOU alot.

I understand what you're going through, the worst of emotions coming back to haunt you. At first, I need to know wether the problem with your neighbour is solved. Wether you should inform the authority about it. Solve the matter, for the sake of your neighbour, and for their children. Then you may find peace in your heart over this matter. Also, I understand how sometimes going to a counselling can seem a little petronizing, if you need to, chat it over with a friend, a relative, you will feel like a burden just lift off of your chest.

I wish you all the best with the matter, and your neighbour's too. I worry about the wife and the children.

In time the feelings will go away. To put your mind at ease you could have phoned the cops as an anonymous caller.
