i have a 1957 U.S penny, and it appears to be Nickel, very shiny silver color, with no dirt, oxidation ect. so i assume it's nickel and not steel, but i can't seem to find any information on it, also it appears to be either, double stamped, or perhaps the press was too strong for the base metal, and stamped it too hard, any info would be appriciated, thank you in advance- Rinamas

No, but there was a 1943 Nickel penny. Now worth $100,000 and they only made five. Only two have been found.

It is impossible for a nickel blank to fit into the collar of a cent. A nickel is also thicker than a cent and I can't see a strip of metal made for a nickel being cut into cent size blanks. Someone has tampered with your coin, after it left the mint. There are just to many things wrong with it. It can be made silver looking by the use of different chemicals. If not convinced you can send a scan of both sides to Answerman2@aol.com., he answers coin questions in Numismatic News a weekly coin paper. Don't bother to email him if you don't send the scans for he can do nothing without them.

I, individually have a number of "wheat backs" myself. I surely have a pair relationship returned so some distance as 1929. My father collects them and that i take after my father in maximum of issues. As I realize it those with out mint mark are properly worth greater and the 1944 or 45s are properly truthfully worth the main by way of war and using the cooper for ammo. That left a depletion of cooper so super that they made the pennies out of (i've got faith) nickel and cooper for the two one or the two certainly one of those years.
