So you don't think rebelling against British rule was liberal? Puhlease! Conservatives are all about being drones for the large corporations.

There were liberals from the beginning. Liberalism ended slavery. Liberalism ended womans sufferage. Liberalism set forth most of our social programs to give the underpriveldged in this country the abilities to enrich their lives. Liberal isn't a dirty word. It is a movement of socially adapt people who feel everyone should be able to achieve the American dream regardless of color or creed or religious background.
My question is what happened to the middle? Why is it necessary to bog yourself down to left or right? I feel the best way is weigh the information of whatever is being debated and THEN form an opinion. There are some things I am liberal about and somethings I'm conservative about.
I think we should abandon Democat & Republican and install the Common Sense Party!!!

The Liberals were called Tories during the Revolutionary War and RAN OFF TO CANADA.
Just like the Liberals did during Nam.
Just like Bill Clinton, Liberals seldom stand up for their country.

It was liberal ideas 230 years ago that gave the US independence. The conservatives were the ones who were sucking up to the King and opposed independence. America was built on liberalism. Freedom of religion, speech, expression, and all of the other things included in the constitution are liberal ideas. It's the conservatives who want to shove their beliefs down everyone's throats. It's the conservatives who want to make religion manditory in schools (a violation of the first amendment), it's the conservatives who want to censor gays and the gay rights movement (another violation of the first amendment), and it's also the conservatives who have given the government the right to arrest anyone they please without giving them the right to a trial & lawyer (a violation of 4th & 5th amendment).
So before you go whining about liberals, think about all of the things that conservatives have done/do to take constitutional rights from Americans today.

Tories were the conservatives of the time, so I guess we'd still be a British colony if folks like you had won out during the Revolutionary War.
