an ultrasound without seeing a prenatal Doctor?
I would guess I am around 8 weeks by my LMP, but you never know....
My insurance wont kick in for another month and NO doctor will see me without insurance, Not even the local women's clinic or the health department.Where I live there is no planned parenthood or anything. Can I go to the ER or something? What would be a good explanation to get me an ultrasound?
I really want the dating to be accurate and if I wait im afraid it might not be accurate.Plus I would really like to know if the baby is actually a viable pregnancy or not before I get too attached.
Thanks for your help

There should be a doctor that will see you with self-pay.

Call the hospitals in your area, ask for a physician referral line, and explain the situation to the doctors offices.

Our hospital sees patients that are self pay all the time.

Something is not right. I know you can fall through the gaps in the system, but healthcare for pregnant women is something thats required by law. Besides that, a doctor cannot turn you away just because you dont have insurance, they would only have to bill you...

Have you tried medicaid until your insurance kicks in?

You could try the ER and tell them that you got a positive pregnancy test, but that you just dont feel right, and insist on an ultrasound. It might work. Especially if you go during mid day (ers are always slowest during the day).

There are private clinics that do it, but you'd have to pay. We paid $100 cash for our last one. However, 12 weeks is still early enough that it will be accurate on date...due dates are fairly flexible anyway, you can have the baby safely any time between 38 and 42 weeks.

As for viable pregnancies, ultrasounds can't always prove that. We lost our first baby at 18 weeks, and the ultrasound had already told us everything was fine. Trust in the Lord, and all will be well. Fear earns you nothing but wasted time. I surely do appreciate the time I spent nurturing myself and getting to know her when pregnant with my first.

It is probably best you wait til your insurance kicks in... In Indiana if you are 16 weeks or more and go to the ER they send u automatically to Labor and Delivery and do a sonogram to check if the baby is okay and here in Texas they wait til your 20 weeks to send u to Labor and Delivery... When I was 5 weeks I thought I was 16 weeks and went to the ER in Indiana and the first thing they did was an ultrasound and thats when we figured I wasnt that far along and here in Texas I was 18 weeks when I went to the ER and they kept me in the ER. I was actually hoping to go to Labor and Delivery to get another Ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby cus my Insurance here in Texas doesnt kick it til Jan 1st. I am 22 weeks and still havent got my ultrasound lol.. Good Luck to you.. And also if you are on Medicaid and you decide to go to the dr they cover all dr bills 3 months prior from ur startin coverage date...

Most docs don't do first ultrasound til 12 weeks. By this point your insurance will kick in and you can go ask your doc for one. Unless you know that you are at high risk for an unviable pregnancy this is sufficient timing for an ultrasound, and don't overworry. Get on prenatal vites asap as teh folic acid helps proper development, and helps to prevent spina bifida.

You can go to the ER and say you're having stomach pains/cramping and you had a positive pregnancy test. They should check to make sure you don't have an ectopic pregnancy by doing an ultrasound.

Do the have medi-cal where you live. Cause if you go to the ER you can get emergency medi-cal and the state will pay for everything. You can just tell them you are having complications or something or just worried. Yes if you go to any doctor they have to see you by law, but I think they can just send you to the emergency room.

My dear your 8 weeks pregnant. And this is about your baby:

Fetal development in pregnancy week 8:embryo in second month We’ve got one whole inch of baby to measure! Your little embryo has finally reached the one-inch mark (30mm) at last. And if it were possible to take a peek, you could see your tiny baby with your naked eye! What’s more, your baby is finally starting to take on some very distinct human features. For starters, their little tail (really just the spinal cord) has disappeared completely. It’s nice to know your baby can no longer be mistaken for a sea creature! Additionally, both their toes and fingers are prominent with very little, if any, webbing. Upper and lower limbs all show recognizable joints (elbows and knees) and the lower limb bones are starting to ossify. But don’t expect your baby to resemble either parent quite yet. Right now, your baby’s head is disproportionately larger than the rest of their body--making up almost half of your little one’s height and weight!

The baby is real and alive and growing! How dare you even contemplate the fact of discontinuing! The baby has had a heart beat for weeks now! So because you haven't seen it you don't think it's there? It is inside it's growing don't take the babies future away it's not fair!

Think about it!

if you go to the ER, it will cost you more than a regulardocs appt.. i think u/s are around $300. im sure any doctor would see you for an u/s as long as you agreed to pay for it.

you could go to the er and tell them that you are having very painful cramping and they probably will give you one. they will probably take a blood test too.
