Best thing is always Exercise. Second to that is reducing Salt intake, and if you are smoking....QUIT!!!
As you Exercise more and become fitter, you're body will naturally hold lower blood pressure as the heart grows (healthily, becoming more efficient) and peripheral resistance decreases via unknown mechanisms. This has been shown in studies.
Salt intake is advice loved by many, although recently I am hearing that studies are showing that it does not really have a major effect.

I've tried various diets, supplements, exercise... nothing seemed to touch my 140-150/90-95 range BP.
Last week I was 120/80. The only thing different I was doing over the last 2 weeks was what Al Sears calls "Supra-Aerobics." Doing a high-intensity workout (50 measly hindu squats wipes me out in less than a minute, my goal is to be able to do 500 in 15 min) defined as pushing me into the oxygen debt zone where I become out of breath and literally have to stop to catch my breath. They key is that eventually I will be able to recover more quickly (pulse and breathing), and so far my immediate side effect is that my BP actually went down!
You can order the audio .mp3 from Al Sears at alsearsmd.com. And you can order more info about Hindu Squats from Matt Furey at mattfurey.com (look for Combat Conditioning; it's not just for combat!)
(And no, I don't get anything from passing along these sources that I reference)

Hey! High blood pressure is very serious. You should consult with the doctor before considering OTC remedies. These are a few techniques that help a bit. A presciption usually is the answer though.
a) Meditation
b) Relaxation therapy- a few times during the day
- sit or lay down, breathe slow and steady. Think of calming places, quite places etc.
c) Low-sodium diet
d) Low-saturated fat diet
e) Exersise
f) Avoid stress
g) Adequate rest, meaning get 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and rest during the day if you need to.
*Your blood pressure should be 130-139 over 85-89. was the doctor the one who determined that you had high BP?
*if you used a public machine, I suggest seeing the doctor to take a proper reading!

The immediate solution is to get some garlic in your system. The next thing you need to do is find out if your eating too much meat or fried foods. Some people can tolerate large amounts of fats. Some people can't tolerate excessive amounts of fats. You need to do so research. If the high blood pressure is due to eating too much food, eat less and exercise more. If your body is converting the foods to cholesterol and storing it, then you need to eat more fruits, vegetables and grains. There is one other contributor to high blood pressure, mental stress. Most often it is the stress we impose on ourselves. Learn to meditate.

I lowered mine when I started drinking a natural high powered juice. It's actually known as the Miracle Juice. I drink 4 oz per day and I am no longer on my HBP medication. I do however still monitor it just to be sure but so far after 4 months no problems.

Exercise, avoid salt and try herbs (see following)
HAWTHORN
:works by dilating blood vessels, thereby increasing the heart's energy supply and improving its pumping ability and does this by blocking the action of a blood constricting enzyme called ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme).
Hawthorn therefore reduces blood pressure in cases where there are chronically constricted arteries. The anti-oxidant properties of hawthorn also help to protect against damage caused by plaque build up in the coronary arteries.

You should read "The Blood Pressure Solution" (also available in electronic format, watch the video presentation here: http://www.fixbloodpressure.com ) It's a very comprehensive step-by-step book that walks you through the natural remedies of high blood pressure. It provides you with a lot of information on what foods to eat, how you can acquire and prepare these foods, how you can change your lifestyle for the better, how to eliminate the toxins from your body, how to reduce stress, how you can check your blood pressure level the correct way etc.
