As close as I can remember the original Battlestar Galactica started on TV in '78 or '79. I liked the original better than the current one.

The reimagined series is now in it's third year.
I believe the mini-series starter for the new BSG was in 2003 from the SciFi channel. I SHOULD know, I own it and watch it a lot.
The original TV show was from the 70's.

i believe there was a movie made before the tv series came out, then the 1979 one season series, then the 6 episode 1980 show and now the new 3 season so far long series.
