The wealth of ireland is rather a new occurance . It was in the early 90's when the Celtic Tiger began and is only showing signs of slowing down now.

Ireland was a colony of Great Britain for 700 years and has been oppresed and impoverished. Ireland was impoverished further by the great potato famine which had led to an almost constant stream of emmigration of the youth.

Ireland are among the foreigners who have begun to become wealthy as the British greed was overthrown.

I do agree that the British have lost their wealth as the majority of it came from the exploitation of their colonies inc. Ireland resources such as land and minerals.

The UK isn't getting poorer, nor is Ireland. Perhaps you mean "less competitive." It costs a lot to employ someone in the UK and even more in Ireland. If this trend continues, foreign companies which are concerned about their profits will go elsewhere. Indian workers are dedicated, cheap to hire and speak English - a major attraction to employers.

what a well constructed question. Ireland has been increasing in wealth per capita and surpassed England some years ago. In times gone by Ireland lost it all to those criminals across the water.
