I have been an user of Linux for the past three years. Now, I am looking at taking the RHCT/RHCE certifications. I went thru the Redhat FAQ on this, and looks like they are positioning this exam as a "guru" exam. Is it realistic for a person with no sysadmin background to aim for this one? I have plenty of time to prepare with my laptop, but is real world work experience necessary before taking up these exams?

Thanks!!

Take practice exams from a company that makes them (You usually have to pay for them)

I would consider buying certification books which have "labs" in them where to can would through scenarios on your redhat workstation/server. Start with the beginning certifications in the list and as you pass those exams, you can build upon your training and experience and work toward the RHCE level exam. With this will will likely want real world experience. You may also be able to find simulation practice exams and labs which can e helpful.

Try and build experience after you pass your first exam - perhaps by getting a part time job supporting redhat at a local company, or working for a computer store or IT company that supports redhat.
