Not at all. Express yourself how you see fit. Don't let society force it self upon you.

This is not really a hobby question. Since it is here, I will throw in my 2 cents worth. I don't crochet, but I do cook and do house work. I was a bachelor for a long time before I met the right person. So I needed to learn to cook, wash clothes and take care of a house or apartment. Just because I got married doesn't mean I just stop doing those things. My wife likes it and we will have been married 18 years soon. Do what you enjoy, only fools or ignorant people would say anything against you. I know of other men who knit or crochet and all are married and have kids, so it is not a sexual thing.

I belong to an online crochet group (soon to be a Yahoo group) and there are a few men who post messages there. From what I can see, their opinions are respected and their work is admired.
In my generation there was a football player ( Roosevelt Grier) who did needlepoint to relax. Believe me, NO ONE made fun of HIM!!
I would never say that men should not do certain crafts, any more than I would say that women should not do things that are traditionally male like woodworking.
If people have a problem with you crocheting, then THEY have a problem!
Enjoy --and find other people ( men and women ) who like to crochet.

Besides Rosey Greer, there is Jean Belliveau who always knitted his own toques while waiting around the hockey dressing room. Kaffe Fassett has made a whole career out of knitting, needlepoint and quilting.
It's so common to see men cooking on TV and often winning contests, not to mention all the chefs with their own shows.
And there are men who just like to clean and cook. Nobody could call my husband gay - he has been a building contractor for 40 years, and has always enjoyed the creative aspect of building and construction. But he also likes to mop floors, clean windows and wash. Our boys were brought up to be creative, and if that's where their interests lie - then so be it! They are all married with children of their own, and I know their wives are delighted to have guys who don't mind cleaning and cooking, and can sew on a button or repair jeans. They can also shingle a roof or build a house. My grandsons all learned to use a sewing machine and to knit by the time they were 7 years old.
Forget what people say and enjoy your creative mind!

No, it's fantastic to see guys that enjoy crochet or knitting. Rosie Grier, used to do needlepoint. Kaffe Fasset is a well known knitting, needlepoint designer. Vogueknitting's magazine "Knit 1" dedicated an entire recent issue to guys who knit and crochet.
Go for it, and be proud of what you create. It's a great outlet to relieve stress and make wonderful things. Also, if you study the origins of knitting. The shepherds used to do it while out tending their flocks. Women didn't start doing it until much later.

I've been crocheting for over 36 yrs. Started in college, started making things for fraternities and soroities. I felt awkward when I came home, only did it in private, Mom helped out, selling my items for me......Got a award for a gown I made in 76'.
My Mom always taught us kids that if you want to do something, don't let anything or anybody stop you.......but do it well.
I older now, so it doesn't bother me as much, i still get some strange looks, but not as many as I used to. Besides, if you know who you are, who else matters, right?

Not sure where the whole "gay" theme came from. He said people THINK he's gay, not that he was gay. Actually. it's quite irrelevant. I'm a straight, 57 year old, full bearded motorcyclist who spins and crochets. The only problem is my wife (who;s a knitter) and I arguing over who gets claim to my hand spun. In fact, my main Christmas presents are bags of fiber. Yeah, I get some strange and surprised looks, my daughter and granddaughter STILL look at me funny, but both of them look forward to the benefits of my work.

Of course it's not wrong--just like being gay isn't wrong! We all have our own creativity whether it's sewing, painting, woodworking, crocheting etc.; this shouldn't be an issue. Enjoy what you're doing!

If you are gay then you are doing just what you want to do so enjoy it...I have a gay brother and he likes to cook, clean and do a lot of things that are suppose to be for women (according to the he-men) but if you are content with your life style why do you care what other people think? all men that are Not gay will always think its sissy to do anything that a woman does or is suppose to do.The fact that you are Gay makes you different from other me that are not gay...Thats who you are,you can,t play both roles..because its just not in you to do that..Its hard to be gay and have non gay men friends....There is plenty of gay people out there that likes the same things that you do.If you ahppen to find a man thats not gay and is acceptable to your being gay, then he will understand..You know anything you do is goind to be wrong to a lot od people...Its hard for gay people out there in the world, you will find more womwn friends than men really....There is always going to be men that says men are gay if they are hairstylist, nurses, interior design, anything they think is (unmanley) according to what they think.Just do what makes you happy, and don,t worry about anyone else, its your life, and its your decision....
