Maybe I am just getting old, but it seems that Christmas, over the years, has become less a holiday of goodwill, sharing, and caring as opposed to a season of commercial opportunism. Wouldn't it be nice if, even only once a year, that we could all display an attitude of universal goodwill toward people of every ethnic and religious background? It just seems a shame that economics, greed, and politics undermine universal human goodwill. While we claim to be the most intelligent creatures on this earth, looking at the world, in its current state, it seems that we are only intelligent enough to destroy our environment while we constantly fight to acquire dwindling natural resources as opposed to applying our intellect to solving the problems of the world. After all, isn't that what a truly intelligent species would do?

I think I'm getting old right along side of you, because I totally miss the old Christmas as well. I'm 43 years old and grew up in the late 60's and 70's. It was not so commercial and was much more family oriented. Instead of the kid's Christmas shows being on 20 times, they were on once and it was a treat!! We looked forward to that. Kids were kids, not kids trying to be adults. We used our brains when we played and were creative...we didn't play mindless video games for hours on end. People cared about each other and were polite to each other. People look at me like I'm insane when I hold a door for an older woman or man. I saw an older woman the other day at the post office and she dropped everything she had in her hands. I stopped and helped her pick it all up and carry it to her car. She was so sweet and appreciative. Why don't other people do that kind of thing? It only took a few seconds and certainly didn't spoil my whole day. It made me feel good to help her!

Sadly though, I think we've seen the last of "goodwill towards men". I would absolutely love to have those days back. I wish my nephew could experience Christmas the way we did.

I hope that you and those that love you have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!! Good luck in 2007!!

I miss Christmas as it was years ago.

Without knowing it, those times were the happiest days of my life when LOVE was abundant.

I was a child then and naturally saw the world with the optimistic eyes of youth.

As the years passed by, I have observed that people are not as kind to each other as I once, in my innocence, thought they were.

With time, death has claimed my parents.

The cruel reality of becoming an adult orphan has put a damper on things in general and the joyful time of how Christmas should be in particular.

However, as a human being with a soul, I have also learned that what counts the most in life is the giving and the receiving of this thing called LOVE.

If you have someone to simply "hug", every day of the year can be Christmas!

No, is not that you are getting old - they want you to believe that. It is so "sick" when Halloween is not even done and they (the stores) have Christmas "stuff" all over the place. To too many people, Christmas is only about gifts and shopping.

Christmas is about family, good friends, love, giving and sharing and for many, the birth Jesus. The Holidays, as celebrated by many religions, is a special time to be with the ones you love and care about. It not about buying an expensive gift.

I've been hearing people complaining about the commercialism of Christmas all my life and I'm 65 years old. I suspect that people over 100 years ago were probably making the same complaints.

If you pay attention to the commercialism that is going on, and has always gone on, you will feel the way you do. Try being a little less attentive to those commercial aspects and pay more attention to caring about others. It will resolve your feelings of conflict.
