Hopefully Seattle, but I doubt Bavasi is willing to dish out that much dough.

As Bret Boone once said of Alex Rodriguez, "of course it's the money." So that lets the Mariners out unless they come up with more cash. I had originally thought the Braves would be it, but it does boil down to money and location. Zito will take big bucks from the Mets (or, far less likely, the Giants) before he heads for the Metroplex and the Texas Rangers.

One would think that the Rangers had learned their lesson from A-Rod. Oh, well.

If and only if the Mariners can scrape up a substantial offer then Zito goes to Seattle. I think he is indeed offering them that chance by waiting so long, which indicates his preferences are to either go to Seattle or across the bay to San Francisco. Otherwise, should the Mets' offer be close to the obscene amount Texas is willing to pay, he goes to the Big Apple and an instant contender. While playing in New York means playing under the microscope, it's a little easier with the Mets. He would also be insulated thanks to the Yankees' lightning rod, or should I say "lightning A-rod."

Again, adding Zito to either the Mariners or the Giants propels them into the playoff picture. I don't see this with Texas. Hence he will go to the Rangers only as a last resort.

My prediction? The Mets have the best current shot at him.

He is likely to end up in either Seattle or Texas. The Rangers are in big interest of him, and his heart is leading him to Texas, but his brain (money) is leading him to Seattle with all of the dough he is receiving from them. So overall, I think Barry Zito will play for the Texas Rangers.

(NOTE: The Chicago Bubs might give him a good deal, also.)

I would say that the rangers and the mets are the to most likely choices because the mets have the money and they need some pitching help and the rangers almost always need pitching and want to get an edge on the a's.

I'm hoping Cleveland, but Dolan won't spend. I've heard reports of the NY Mets or maybe even Texas. With his high demands for money, it's going to be tough for teams to afford him.

Probably the New York Mets, they give him the best oppurtunity to win a World Series next season.

Wherever the largest amount of money is offered, as in the case of so many greedy baseball players and athletes in other sports as well. However, we fans still pay outrageous prices to see them all play, so we are part of the problem as well.

Chow!!
