My kids LOVED the Jumperoo and their Exersaucer! Though I've heard the saucer can actually impede your child's development when it comes to walking, I'm not sure there's any scientific basis for it. The Jumperoo is great b/c it builds their leg muscles. Just don't leave your kid in the device for hours on end (which I'm sure most mothers w/ common sense don't, but you never know).
My son recently went through physical therapy for torticollis, and his therapist actually told me NOT to leave him in a device for more than 15-20 min. at a time b/c he NEEDED the tummy play time to strengthen his neck. If your child doesn't already have any developmental problems, however, you can probably leave them in the device for a little longer.

I've heard that jumpers and any other device actually puts stress on their hips. I used a saucer for when I was cooking or doing chores (tiny apartment), it didn't hinder his development since he did walk at 9 months! But like a previous poster said, these are to be used for short periods of time only. I doubt you can find a decent walker, I believe they are banned in most places since idiots didn't watch their kids near stairs.

These devices are a means of entertainment and distraction for any child. This is not a baby sitter so for any to be negative is kind of hard to believe. However you might get the small portion of moms that keep their child all day in one. I was hesitant to about the bouncer for my son 8 years ago, but if you hang it from a door way that has strong and wide trim then no problem. The walker is good for open areas, in apartments its a bit rough for parent and child. Overall get what is most comforting to you to leave your baby in, and take him/her out after 15 to 25 mins each time for a break.

I have one of each, a jumper and a saucer. They are find to use as long as you don't use them as a way to put your baby somewhere for hours at a time. We do 10-15 minutes here and there in one or the other while I do dinner, dishes, laundry and my son loves it. It will not hurt them in moderation. Let the baby have some fun :-)

Walkers are the worst, they just slow the rate of larning to walk. There hasnt been any evidence that bouncers and jumpers and play disks hinder development.
Johnny jump ups sure are fun!

Both of my boys used Johnny Jump Ups and they loved them. As for it being bad on their joints, I have never heard that. My oldest son is five now and started walking at 11 mo. He loved his johnny jump up and stayed in it quite a bit. He is now very active in tee ball, soccer, and soon in football. He has no joint problems. My second son is two. He was a very unhappy baby and cried all the time...unless he was in his johnny jump up. He walked at 8 mo. and now is healthy and happy and jumps and runs. So I love the johnny jump up and it did absolutely no damage to my children whatsoever.

My daughter loved her jumperoo and her exersaucer. She actually has started walking and she is only 12 months. i think they are great. they allow you to do cleaningor wahtever else you need to do and destracts the baby for a little while. we also would take te exersaucer places with us so that she wasn't held the whole time. from my experience they are great and would highly recommend them.

I read that walkers are OK, while jumping devices are not good for baby's joints. I would check with pediatrician.
