It may be your tires. It depends on what the thumping sound really sounds like. Usually when your wheel bearing go bad you'll hear a grinding or a vibration sound and vibration in your steering wheel.. The noise your hearing could be a tire that has a separated tread or you may have a part of the wheel hitting your brake caliper. Put it up on a jack and spin your wheel to see if your can single out a wheel and then inspect to see if you can feel or hear anything making the noise you described. Then what ever you see or hear fix. If you don't feel comfortable doing it take it to a mechanic and have him try to diagnose your problem. Have him find out exactly what it is and not just what he thinks it is!

There are no warning signs when a wheel bearing is "going" bad.
When they make noise they are already bad. Could by a bad bearing or tire. Try rotating the tires and see if the noise changes.

Try this...
Jack up one wheel. Put one hand on the top of the tire and one on the bottom. Can you jiggle the tire? It should move a very tiny bit.
Spin the tire by hand. Do you hear the clunk behind the tire? Might be the CV joint.

Take this car into a mechanic for correct diagnosis. It sounds to me like your wheel lugs are getting loose. Torque (tighten) them down to 100 pounds feet. This happened on my Dodge.
