Every year I see movies coming up and all of them mentioning Santa Claus and his ridiculous sleigh..isn't the true purpose of Christmas to celebrate Jesus Christs B'day...and not to ask some fictional tub of lard for presents....

Wouldn't you rather ask for Gods forgiveness and find the true meaning of Christmas than a time of havin the cashiers benefitting from their created image of Christmas; a time of buying gifts..coincidentally fom their shops

Actually, Christmas was originally a pagan holiday. So I guess you could say it's returning to its roots. Anyways, Easter is much more important to me because it reminds me of why He came to earth in the first place, and that's when He handed me the keys to heaven.

I tell you now, the true purpose has been forgotten. The first Christmas came about when it WAS Jesus's birthday. Hence the term "Christ" in the word Christmas. But people cannot comprehend the real meaning. Makes me sick, really. God's forgiveness cannot be matched, and should not be overlooked by any means. Forget the presents. The only reason we are all so overjoyed in presents and not Christ...is the fact that our devilish needs have taken over-- greed, lust, and of the sort. I hate this country and sin more and more every day.

Wow some of the answers surprise me here. The Christians did adopt December 25Th as the day to celebrate the Lord's birthday.
It was also a day of pagan celebration. The true meaning of CHRISTMAS well look at the first 6 letters in the word. People can opt to celebrate and make their own paths on which it is intended for. As Christians, we are to celebrate the birth. That is a fact. Love it or not. Santa Clause is a derivation of ST. Nicholas, who was a kind giver to the village as Catholic writ teaches us. I prefer to preserve it as a celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ and celebrate His birth with family and friends. We exchange gifts but we don't make the corporate world multi millions alone. " Bring Him, incense, gold, and mur.--Mary Christmas and God bless

The rememberance of Christ Birth is still a part of the season and the opportunity to speak of God's gift to us, the Way of salvation is abundant. Buying gifts has overshadowed the pure meaning but if I could tell you about a free gift that is undefiled incorruptable and reserved in heaven for you would you be interested? Only true believers can be chastised for missing a great chance to share the gospel. Don't blame the frenzied shoppers. They are only doing what comes naturally. I am financialy broke and I love Christmas.

Oh actually I remember a teacher telling me once that the church had said this on name respect and ettiquite: We can be called "Mormons" and it's okay. and we can say you are a "Mormon" and I am a "Mormon". "Mormonism" is also okay, because that is our "ism." we couldn't say we practice Latter-Day-Saintism, see? what they don't want us to call it is "the Mormon church" or "I am a part of the LDS Church." As for "LDS," because the whole acronym would be so long it would defeat the purpose, "LDS" alone is fine. By stating that we are LDS, we imply that we are latter day saints of the Church of Jesus Christ. It still is proper and shows respect. Even though many other names acceptable, of course the most respect would indeed be to state that we are members of the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints." Or just "we belong to the Church of Jesus Christ" to simplify haha. hope that was understandable and that it helped! have a good night!

No, the true purpose of Christmas is to give presents. Check your history and if you want to argue that it was changed then I would have to ask you why you are arguing about the way it's going now.

I know what you mean But know that people get presents to symbolize when jesus was born. Jesus is the reason for the season!

Nope, either way you look at it.

Jesus disappeared and won't get me presents, so i'd rather spread joy and actual cease fires during wars, in memory of a fat man in tights then ask for forgiveness from God on the b'day of his son that we killed; see the logic?
