When I was young, they didnt have the little screw holding the plate down. I can never find a screwdriver small enough to open the battery case for todays toys.

I'm sure it is a result of a lawsuit of some sort...Just wandering?

It is there to piss the parents off.

I think its there to make the toy more secure and to keep the batteries firmly in place. Before 'the screw' the plate used to be easily broken or knocked off.

And you can buy sets of screwdrivers suitable for models - perfect fit!

Several reason's, to keep the batteries in place from falling
out or so the child dont eat them.
Sometimes if A batteries moves just A little bit the toy will
not work, so this keep's it in place. Go to Lowe's they carry
lots of different sizes in screw-drivers.

It was there so kids don't take the batteries out and eat them or something. Go to buy an eye glasses repairing kit with the screw driver. That usually fits it. Or go to a 1dollar store and find a mini kit.

They have this screw so that kids won't open it up and choke on the batteries inside. This makes it safer for the kids.

That's because kids tend to remove the batteries and play with them. They could choke if they try to swallow it, you know?

Yeah but most of the toys back then probably didn't do backflips and vibrate and run around and all that jazz.
