Because people believed in these myths once upon a time as the truth, and so its an interesting part of history. Some people still believe in them. Only people with no imagination want to deal only with the truth... and besides, that would get too depressing after a while.

Mythology shows the depth of our culture. Plus, much of it has factual basis. For example, for ages people thought that the myths about the trojan war were fiction, but excavations proved that the civilisations in Greece and in Troy were much as Homer depicted them, and the finds in troy show that it was destroyed at that time during a long war.
The same goes for the volcano of Santorini, that destroyed the Minoan civilisation, it created the legend of the destruction of Atlantis.
Also, all mythologies speak of a huge cataclysm, it can't be a coincidence, it is probably a completely natural phenomenon that happened, of course it stayed in their memory as a divine intervention etc.

Anyone who has done indepth study has come to realize that every myth has a basis in factual events. king Arthur, Paul Bunyion, Hercules, etc--all people who actually lived. Chances are excellent that Jesus actually lived, too. And my guess is that he was a very special guy. I tend to agree with you about astrology, but solar flares and the moon's gravity do have provable effects on us.

Psychic abilities are real, but I bet all those who make their money at it are full of baloney as you say. Psychics have been used successfully to solve crime and most of us have had small psychic experiences of our own.

Somtimes fact is stranger than fiction. If you research mythology, you will be surprised to find that much of it is based on real-life happenings that developed into legends.
