They should! The computers that have access to the internet should be in a main living area. The kids know how to go around parental controls, however these should still be installed on the computers. I personally know of several children that have been lured by internet predators.

Yes we only allow our daughter to go to specific sites and those are ones we have checked out and put in the favorites category on our computer. She isn't allowed to type in anything because one spelling error can get you some pretty bad stuff. My husband also checks the history to make sure she is following the rules. She is only nine and I don't want her learning stuff that she has no business knowing right now.

When I was younger my Mother kept a check on what I was looking at. I'm 19 now but she trusts me, and our computer is out in the open, not in a bedroom. That's one mistake that parents make- letting their kids keep the computer in their bedrooms. If its out where you can look over their shoulder once in a while, they won't be as tempted to do things they shouldnt.

I think it's a great Q!
I have 2 daughters, and both have computers. They can not go on the internet without me there when they start. They do not have IM access or chat access. I have website screening software to filter out the XXX crap on the net... so they can do search & play games.
Sadly, I don't think most parents are as diligent as I am when it comes to protecting their kids against the dangers on the net.

I check on the kids. Parenting means checking, and parenting well is loving for children.

yesterday, my 8 year old sister invited one of her friends over, and since my sis has a PC in her room, got into you tube.com and they watched different videos and then accidentally they started playing something that included sex scenes, my sister and her friend closed the door of the room, but didn't stop the movie, my mum then opens it and finds them watching adult content videos.
I was so shocked, she saw things that a girl of her age shouldn't, from now on, we never let her close the door and everytime she finishes using the pc, I check the history, to know which vids she saw.
also there's a page called rotten, which shows dead people and awful stuff like that, I know friends who like watching those stuff, it's disgusting, eventhought they are 20 and I'm 18, I can't belive they enjoy watching people die.

I'm going to be completely honest and say no my parents didn't, because they trusted me. I took full advantage of that and all I could say is, there's porn on just about everything you once thought was so innocent. But I'm not stupid to put really stupid questions or answers on here, only did that once.
