The Spartan Regiment Marching Band at Francis Howell Central High School in St. Charles, Missouri was selected to go to China to represent the United States in the Olypic Cultural Festival 2007. However, we are a small band and we need to raise $4,000 just for one person to go...but we have like 150+ band members. Any means of fundraising suggestions or money offered would be helpful because we haven't been getting much publicitiy! Please help our marching band, it's a great honor and we would really love to go! Thank you very much!

AMAZING!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I think the suggestion to have a concert and charge for the tickets is the best idea. All the parents would buy for sure. You could charge $25.00 each, and scurry around & get donations from merchants to have a draw at the concert so people will have a chance to get something wonderful.

Ask local merchants to help out. Promise them you will publicize their business on your program - & do that.

Have a grand prize like a wonderful vacation, or something special - maybe even a CAR??? (if you can get that donated)

Also see if you can get discounted rates for your tickets/hotel, etc. because it is a non-profit organization.

Ask the selecting committee if there are any Federal funds to help defray the expenses, since you will be representing the United States.

In other words, set up a 'ways & means' committee to come up with creative ideas. Then set up committee heads for each facet, and have each committee head set up a committee. Involve everyone in the band, and possibly the parents as well. Make it a wonderful community event. You'll all have a great time, learn a LOT, and perhaps go for a once-in-a-lifetime never-to-be-forgotten adventure.

Good luck.

At my school we have bake sales and are starting this new thing where we hold a silent auction and auction of students or groups of students that can help around the house or something. Last year we help a used books sale where we collected books and held a sale. We also had a type of dinner deal where parents and relatives pay 20 bucks to eat a meal that's catered and can listen to music that the band has played throughout the year. Hope this helps

Band-o-grams!!!!! that's how our band does it. you break the band into groups, and have them go play music 4 people. a person buys one, $25, and says the person the band-o-gram is 4.

Sell your tubas and buy lottery tickets with the proceeds. If you buy enough it's a sure thing.
