I hear horror stories about how people tend to be crabbier at Christmas, rushing around looking for gifts they can't find, and can't afford if they do find them. Road rage, crashing shopping carts, rudeness, high blood pressure, etc.

Is it true?

I've noticed just the opposite...but maybe that's just Canada...or maybe it's just me. I smile more, I yield more, I'm less stressed and more cheerful (if that's possible *rolling my eyes*). I have an irrepressible urge to make other folks' day just a little nicer. Spreading goodwill, if you will. And I've noticed that most people reciprocate most willingly. I strike up conversations in the grocery lines, I let people go ahead of me in traffic, I dish out a quarter when someone doesn't have one for their shopping cart, etc. And others do the same. So...in your experience, are people more stressed or less stressed at Christmas time?

Christmas is most stressful when one has to raise children! As parents, we are wholly invested in their caring and happiness, so the stress comes with that situation!

Now .. finally .. as an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree .. the STRESS is GOING WELL AWAY because I no longer have to worry about everyone that will show up or be under my roof on Christmas Day ... I just get chances to SIT DOWN (oh, dreamed of that privilege for many, many years!), put my feet up, get cosy under electric throw, pick up a good book, and NO LONGER do I have to be up and working hard at home all through the nights, the weekends, the days, during Christmas Day, etc.

I`m much more stressed at Christmas. I start getting stressed about it in June, knowing it is only 6 months away. I`m happy for people who truly enjoy it and I really wish I could too. I don`t think it has anything to do with nationality because I`m Canadian too.

I live in Canada, and I have experienced christmas stress. Just because we live in Canada doesnt mean we are peaceful. Everybody goes through stresses in christmas time that's why everybody is so happy when it is over.
