We do use all of our brains, that rumor is absolutely false. Sure we dont use it all at once, 1 part is for creativity, 1 part for something else, etc.
A mental breakdown is when someone cant handle the stress anymore and everything simply shuts down on them. (i.e all rational thought)

Hello,
Electricity per say makes up a great deal of our body. Our body being so much liquid this is bound to cause problems.
Mental breakdowns as one calls them I personally feel in inevitable. Circuits in our head get stressed out,or as in epilepsy miss, or get crossed as a car will, causing a seizure.
In today's society these so called mental breakdowns happen and are more talked about. Some day all humans will learn how to use more of there brain protecting these parts that tend to misfire etc.
For now humans, even in the medical profession, are as blind people who can only see a dim light where there is bright sunshine. In other words know one knows much about the brain. Scientists in the medical profession know more of course but until the insane asylums (which have gained a lot of publicity lately) of the early 1900 we still using crude instruments and there was not much help at all for any mental illness's as there is today.
We now condemn those doctors who did the crud surgeries in these insane asylums of yesterday (and not to far in the past) but if it were not for the torture of those poor souls we would not have the medications nor the knowledge we have today.
It seams to me it is in style to have some sort of mental illness, if it is not anxiety disorder, it is ADHD or ADD, depression can now be talked about in a open forum.
Getting long winded again, ug! Anyhoo to sum it up a so called mental breakdown with the fast, stressful ways we live our lives of today it is inevitable people are going to have more and more problems with mental illness....and have these so called mental breakdowns....My thoughts on this...

P.S. Since the brain is like the hard drive of a computer it is only logical that the brain plays a major roll in mental illness's.

It is a common myth that we only use 10% of our brain. Brain imaging has proven time and again that we use all of our brain. "Mental breakdown" or "nervous breakdown" isn't a psychological or scientific term, but rather an everyday name given to a cluster of symptoms which include debilitating stress and anxiety.

A mental breakdown is caused by stress, and has little to do with how much brain you use. I don't get the question.

You use all of your brain, but you usually only use a small percentage at any one time...which has absolutely nothing to do with a mental breakdown. Maybe you should try to use more of your brain.

Usually when a person has a "nervous" (not a mental) breakdown, it is not the brain cells that is the problem but their emotional health. Emotion is that part of you that holds yourself together, which includes self esteem, self respect, coping skills, ability to pull yourself together and get out of the house to find a job to feed yourself etc.
It is easier for a kid who relies on a set of parents to provide this basics of life for him, but for an adult it is devastating and they will need outside help to get back on their feet again.

This is only a myth. It is not true we only use 10% of the brain - we use it all. Neuroimaging has proved the "10% Myth" is just another urban legend people keep repeating over and over.

Furthermore, this myth is convenient to people selling self-help stuff, as they want to make us believe that with their help, we shall be able to use the other 90%.
