i think it is typical of bush. he only came into the white house to serve the interests of an elite. my feeling is that he is deeply unamerican in the best sense of the word "american".

okay, basic economics here... we raise the wage of the employee (keep in mind those earning minimum wage is well below 15% of the working stiffs out there). the cost to run the business has now increased. tax cuts while more abundant for a business owner, they also have time limits on some of them, and monetary limits on others. if you dont allow the business owners some relief, they cant expand and thusly provide more for everyone..including the IRS. And if he cant provide more every year..(to minimum match inflation) guess what....the business starts taking a downward trend.... reduction in hours occurs...those who got a raise..now are looking at less hours...less money to take home. Also, while the rich get these great tax breaks, remember that they are still paying WAY more in taxes than any of the poor guys....1% of 500k is what? $5k, and trust me they are paying multiple times that. most of the poor guys remember get a refund every year and are lucky if they pay that much once all is said and done..the "over 500k" club pays more in taxes in one year than most will earn wages in 10.....and the percentage of actual tax money paid by the top 10% of wealthy, is about 90% of the total money paid in taxes in the us annually. Now...that being said, im totally against outsourcing and setting up headquarters outside the us to avoid taxes...but essentialy tax breaks are more deserving of the rich who actually provided jobs, services etc etc. without them creating these things...your minimum wage issue would be moot. and trust me, this is coming from a poor guy (me), but everytime people whine about the rich getting a tax break..it isnt the just the rich getting a break...the tax breaks go across the board...the amount is samller for poor people because a % of less money = less money. whew..that was harebrained and all over the place wasnt it?

It is a joke. Just because you are per say making more money, the taxes will go up. Inflation will skyrocket and the Dollar Menue at McDonald's will be the Three Dollar Menue. By increasing minimum wage, all prices will go up. Small businesses will go bankrupt and big businesses will prosper. This is all a big joke. It shows us how much Bush cares about the American people that HAVE to work of a living. Taxes go up and the rich get richer. It is the adverse and opposite effect of Robin Hood.

If you bothered to understand the tax cut FOR EVERYONE, which by the way actually raised the minumum for those who had to pay taxes (meaning more poor didn't have to pay income taxes at all). However, raising the minimum wage is still a bad idea. It has nothing to do with an increase in productivity, and will likely lead to people being laid off. Plus, what most don't realize, it is a real bonus for the high paid union workers - now that will likely lead to higher prices and layoffs.

B***S***. It just may end up as a veto override, considering several states have already passed their own, even Florida by a 2/3 majority vote of the people. I believe there are too many Republicans who want to stay in DC to ignore the wishes of the voters. Perhaps Bush is shooting his kneecap in an attempt to keep from shooting himself in the foot?
Come on, Ri. It matters because there are thirty-something other states out there who haven't done what Colorado did.

Every bill he ever signs has more benefit for the rich at the expense of middle and lower class America. Sounds like the Revolutionary War era when the king of England did the exact same thing. Will the next George Washington please step forward!

I think that if the senate is wise, it will just use two thirds of senate and house to get it passed, and blow off Bush. But it doesn't matter, because Colorado already added a minimum wage hike to our constitution, and it has to increase yearly with the cost of living.

I have to agree with the first answer. It is typical of Bush...he really only cares about the rich elite. He is one of the least spiritually evolved people in this world, and hopefully, the best thing that may come out of his administration is showing the rest of us how not to be.

I think the Bush Administrations philosophy that, if you give tax cuts to the rich, it will trickle down and help poorer people. If they want to help the poorer people so bad, why don't they give a tax break to them? Seems to me that would work a lot better.

It's beautiful isn't? Conservatives will tell you that businesses pay more then minimum wage, yet in order to raise minimum wage, it needs to be tied to a tax cut that benefits those who pay more then minimum wage.
They're all insane.
