Computer monitors have a de-res (de-gauss) function built into them for just this kind of problem. Modern TVs may have this function built into them. Look into your owners manual and see if you can access a menu with your remote. There may be a toll free # you can call to find out. You can call a repairman in your area and he can tell you. At one time the only choice you had was to replace the set but you may luck out on this one. Good luck.

One of the most damaging things to electronics is electromagnetic radiation (EMT) . This is when the magnet of another electronic - usually a computer speaker, cordless phone or other signal device is too close to that of the one in question..
If you ever see distorted coloring or "blurring" because of a nearby object, move the object right away. The top three variables for ruining electronics are :
1. Heat
2. Moisture
3. Magnets
If you have no known EMT device near your television or monitor and your screen is still distorted, you will need to replace the item. It is permanantly damaged and you will not be able to feisably fix it without expensive repairs that are far more expensive then totally replacing it instead.
Also remember, when disposing of computers, monitors or televisions, to always do so in a proper place. It is illegal in most places to include such devices in the standard trash pickup and dumpsters. Chemicals inside include : lead, nickel, mercury and a host of other very toxic materials that cannot be included in standard waste disposal. Contact your local EPA agency for safe effective removal recepticals of your old and damaged electronic equipment.

Yes it can be easily fixed.
Look up degauss in the dictionary.
There is a unit called a degausser. It is a round circle about 1 foot in diameter and is plugged into a 110 outlet. Degauss means to demagnetize. You just take it and go around the screen in circles from the outside and make the circles smaller moving toward the middle and then pull it away from the TV.
Picture is now back to normal......
A growler, that was used to check generators in the old days, will do the same thing.
I have a cheap degausser in my toolbox that I got for around $10.00. You might call Radio Shack.
If all else fails just take to a TV repair shop and let them do it. Be sure to get price first and ask if they will do it while you wait. Only takes a few seconds to fix it so you should not pay much for the service. May be better off to just buy one in case it happens again.
I never tried this but you might give this a try. Take something that in round like a hula hoop but only about 1 foot in diameter. Take a long extension cord and start with the female end and wrap it around and around the loop till it is covered all around. Then get another one and use it to plug it in to an outlet. Now move it as above and see if it worked. If not then just take to a shop and let them do it.
It is EASY to fix.
