I posted a different question about wrapping Santa's presents in different paper so my 8 year old wouldn't figure it out. I was commented that this could cause her psychological problems when she is older. Other than being teased at school what would it cause?
I found this thought intriguing! lol

First and foremost, finding out she believed a lie. And that you did nothing to bring her the truth.
And finally, that everyone knew she was wrong, except her.

Well, if you're in england, all you have to do is apply to the local council for housing benefit and then go to your gp to get a note to say that you're unable to work, and then you apply to the benefits office for incapacity benefit and income support. It's not a lot of money, but it's better than being tortured with your illness and feeling like a failure. If you're in another country, I would go to a doctor and get some advice regarding this, because there must be some way that ill people survive. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck

The whole point is to teach the feelings of the holidays. To teach about Santa or any other make believe "persons" is merely exercising the imagination of the kids. Imagination is VERY important for creativity and overall problem solving in life. It helps "thinking outside the box"
Teasing at school happens when they don't believe. They'll be sort of out-casts for being different. Sooner or later they all figure it out anyways.

You know, what supposed to be so wrong in a child beleiving that a perfect stranger might care about them enough to make a random act of kindness? Stopping beleving in Santa isn't a catastophic event for everybody. I just kinda figured it out on my own because my mom's hand writing had written "Santa" on the "from" portion of the gift tag. It was no biggie for me, I've carried the spirit of Santa in my heart all my life. I hope my kids will transition as easily too! Good Luck!

Delusion. Why would you want to let children believe in Santa anyway. Your coming out of you pocket spending all of this money on these children and you want to let them think some fat guy in a red suite delivered these toys to them. There's magic in knowing that their loved ones took the time out to pick out a gift specifically for them. Well that's just my opinion anyway. The magic and joy also comes from the family closeness the ambiance set by the decorations and looking out they window at a fresh crisp blanket of snow. Well before global warming anyway. This is what I remember giving me the most joy.

it is harmless. I found out about santa early on but I only learned about the tooth fairy when I was in 3rd grade, in school. It was assumed that I knew already. I didn't let on. theres's nothign wrong with it. its a nice piece of fantasy. ... I don't believe in the Santa Cause.

Lady its up to kids what they want to believe - they find out one day anyway!
I found out when I heard my mum and dad one xmas eve taking the prezzies down stairs, and that opened my eyes. But any mature kid will soon realise the truth, it doesnt take a genius. You just have to slip in the odd moments where they'd realise he aint real.
