because black people like it, and there are alot of them in california, which is the capital of teenage culture. i am a teenager and i hate hip-hop, and if you like it in my group you get called a black supremacist, and people keep shoutin 'tupac likes poo on his rod' at you. lolz

Its a trend and record companies set the trends in short its being shoved down the throats of naive teens to make a fast buck and like most trends it will be replaced soon enough by something else for the next generation who will think that it is all there is and that they invented it even though they have been indoctrinated like all the other generations before them and nothing has actually changed at all its just the arrogance of youth.
Music is music no matter what you call it and boundries between genres are only an illusion.

Because it swept the nation in the same way Rock-N Roll did. It's both different and interesting, and that's why people of all walks of life gravitate towards it. Why do you think reality TV is so popular? In the nineties corporations turned to hip hop to get more bang for their buck for commercial air time. All hip hop isn't the same either, I can tell you dozens of artists that don't use the n-word, that don't brag about material possessions, and getting the women, these are some of the stereotypes that people always think of when they think of rap. Let's face it people WANT hip hop, so the media gives it to them. Hip hop is as American as apple pie and is here to stay.

Its so popular because that is what is selling. The media wouldn't be shoving it down anyone's throats if records weren't selling.
And, most hip hop video channels and radio stations are not targeted towards kids. Usually the demographic is women 18-34.
PS... Nemo Credete... you are a dumb as$ and I hope one of those black kids slap the sh*t out of you. Do you really think it would be so popular if only black people liked it??? That shows how much of a dumb as$ you are since blacks only count for about 12% of the population. And, I can guarantee that there are more white people buying records than blacks.

Shoving down throats? I don't get that part, but it sounds good that is why it's popular. White teens can listen to what they want to, what's wrong with that?

It's disgusting and degrading to men and women alike. The videos sensationalize sex and money to the level of Gods. It's sad to think that our kids are buying into it too.
I weep for the future when I see that S**t on MTV.

It has a good beat. Its violent and something you would remember. Also, has meaning in some songs.
