As many hours as he needs to "Mommy"-he's not a play toy with an on and off switch. A two month old doesn't have a set schedule yet...so learn how schedule your "play" time with him when it's convenient for him and he is awake. It is not wise to disturb a babies sleep pattern-tends to make 'em cranky!!!!Have fun and good luck!

Your question is so sweet :-)
From my experience it's better when the little ones sleep more. My son takes only few 1/2 hr naps during the day, and it's hard to keep him entertained all the time.
I would talk to the pediatrician to make sure everything is well with your son. He can be low on iron or dehydrated. Please don't assume anything without checking with pediatrician since he can be perfectly well. And if he is, than his sleeping pattern is just his nature. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of opportunities to play with him in a month or so when he is better adjusted to this world.
Take care

A 2 month old should sleep about 18 hours per day. Consider yourself lucky! My daughter didn't sleep more than 20 minutes at a time for the first 3 months. Trust me, you're happier this way.

On average 15 hours a day total. 8-10 hrs at night and 5-7 hrs during the day.
There is a nice chart on sleep for infant to 3 years at the site listed.

I HAVE A 6 MONTH OLD AND WHEN SHE WAS 2 MONTHS SHE SLEPT ALL DAY. I THINK SHE WAS AWAKE FOR 3 OR 4 HOURS A DAY. AND NOT AT ONE TIME. JUST ENJOY IT NOW. MY DAUGHTER IS NOW 6 MONTHS OLD AND IS AWAKE ALL THE TIME.

20 hours, your newborn will still love the hugs and kisses while he's asleep, you don't have to stop. Wait a few months and he will start staying up longer so you can play with him more.

Now is the time to get some rest. But if you need some thing to do, take pictures. At this point in his life you can take the cutest pictures-- like under the X-mas tree...in cute outfits etc..
Remember as he gets older there will be less time to rest, so use your time wisely.
