Well, turtles can carry Salmonella which can but not very often be transmitted to humans! To avoid this, wash your hands before and after handling! Also, avoid feeding anything that could have had salmonella such as raw chicken! The chance of a turtles carrying is small and even smaller is catching it but be careful and enjoy your turtles! Just dont handle then lick your fingers coz they also poop and wee in the water and also if you pick them up, some will urinate in your hands so be careful!

The main thing turtles can give to humans is Salmonella. The most common reason they have it is because they are forced to live in contaminated water. If the water is well filtered and the other cares are good, the odds for Salmonella are reduced.
Salmonella is a common food poisoning toxin. The most common form of the toxin causes a rather mild 24-48 hour reaction in most people. 'Stomach flu' and the '24 hour bug' are usually actually Salmonella poisoning.
Turtles are not the main source of contaimination, either. Cooked or cold chicken and eggs at room temp are big sources, and the toxin is often cultured off money, light switches, phones, etc.
It is usually spread by not washing hands after using the toilet, or by touching another contaminated surface. It is pretty easily defeated by simple effective hand-washing.

The disease that most people associate with reptiles, including turtles, is salmonella. You can catch it if they scratch you or you injest the germs, primarily by not washing your hands after you handle them then eating or drinking something. Most reptiles carry this organism in their guts and it can rarely be completely eliminated.
Don't eat or smoke or touch your face while you're handling reptiles and wash your hands after you handle them. Don't let them crawl on your kitchen counter or dinner table or anywhere else food touches. It's pretty basic. It doesn't completely eliminate the risk of catching something, but then again you can get salmonella from an improperly cleaned cutting board, incompletely cooked chicken, eggs, water that isn't properly treated, and a whole lot of other things.
You can't live like the bubble boy and still enjoy life. If reptiles are important and fun for you to handle, do so in a sanitary manner to minimize the risk.

YES! mainly salmonella. There are more. Just make sure you always wash your handsimmediatly after handling them. If you are bit or scratched treat it immediatly and leave the turtle alone until ur wounds are healed. And if they are pets keep them and there homes clean this will keep them healthier.
