If you've been in a relationship with someone, and if you have been living together, sleeping together etc. then you have joined lives with that person. Imagine you took two paper dolls and you put a few drops of white glue and stuck them together, let dry. Now if you pull them apart...even if you try to separate them easily, pieces of each stick to the other.
Now imagine that is you and your someone. It will take time to fill in those gaps left when you separated.
Most people make the mistake of filling in with a new lover. Wrong. After a major system shock(you'll know you're still in it if you feel remorse, fear, anger, sadness etc) You need time to heal. A marathon runner doesn't have a heart attack and get out of the hospital the next day to go running. They take about a year to return to full health. Is you emotional body any less important?

A trucker who has been out on the road for three weeks stops into a brothel outside Vegas.
He walks straight up to the Madam, drops down $500 and says, "I want your ugliest woman and a bologna sandwich!!"
The Madam is astonished. "But sir, for that kind of money you could have one of my finest ladies and a three-course meal."
The trucker replies, "Listen sweetheart, I ain't horny, I'm homesick."
