I thought it may have been one of Rabbie Burn's poems but so far I can't find it, hope someone out there can help.

yes you're right it is from a Burn's Poem - ‘To a Louse’.

O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us
To see oursels as others see us
It wad frae monie a blunder free us
An' foolish notion
What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us
An' ev'n Devotion

The poem was by Burns (so your memory was correct).

It's his little poem 'To a Louse'
