Its strange, americans seem to say silly things like that, i mean i don't want to be like americans, is it something they just say to make themselves feel important or what?

I most certainly would not want to be American..
I am British and very happy with that thank you very much... people are NOT JEALOUS OF THE USA contrary to what they would have us believe... it's called projection.. they have convinced themselves that the world wants to be like them and consequently are trying to impose these ideas on us. In Britain we have the NHS, a better education system a stonger currency a more intelligent [though misguided leader] which is why we have so many people trying to get into this country. They bypass other European countries just to get here. THE ONLY PEOPLE TRYING TO GET INTO AMERICA.. ARE MEXICANS and a few CUBANS AND THAT IS SIMPLY DUE TO A GEOGRAPHICAL FLUKE [Mexico borders the USA and Cuba is only 90 miles or so from Key West].
Logically what is there ot be jealous of.. ? A country which is almost universally despised? A country in which the people are not particularly intelligent and know little of what is going on in the world around them? A country in which the obesity levels are beyond belief, a country whose President is the subject of much mockery...?
America exports its ideas world wide and then mistakes the fact that people emulate their fashion trends and fastfood habits with envy..
Japan possibly has a greater influence on the West than America. think about the technological strides this country has made......
If anything I would love to live in Canada - clean, politically sound, non-arrogant yet culturally aware people.. give me Canadians anyday!

Well hello again now that I realize that your just another American bashing moron. I have something to say. You British people think you are so high and mighty but truth is the only reason you don't like Americans is we kicked your azz in the revolutionary war. You were the biggest strongest country in the world and you got your azz kicked by all 9 of as at the time. Its ok its not your fault that you are all so inbred you have no choice but to be retarded just like your ancestor's standing in a straight lines with big red coats on thanks for the target practice. I'm not sure, I've never said or thought anything like that.
But, it could be the fact that there are people from every country on earth who migrate to America in hopes for a better life.

I am an American and I don't think everyone wants to be like americans. Different countries have their own cultures, beliefs, doctrines, etc. Each should be respected.

What would you expect from an American--that we should walk around saying things like--
"The USA is okay... but those guys is Bosnia, they really know how to live!"
Of course people will support "the home team" and it would be weird if they didn't.
Nobody is asking you to imitate any aspect of American culture. Please feel free to ignore American Music, movies, television, theater, books and web sites. That should make you much happier.
For myself, I'll continue watching Monte Python reruns and other British comedy, visiting museums full of Italian and French artwork, reading Harry Potter books,dining in Mexican food restaurants, and generally judging individuals--not entire cultures.

The only real American cultures are Native American ones anyway. You might like mine, although we Cherokee have heavy European influences culturally, especially from England, France and Ireland. As for "American" culture, I think that's better defined as US pop culture.

i am american - people in our country seem to think that nothing is better than them. this is because we are uneducated about how other countries feel about our customs or their own. most people don't have a clue that nearly every country in the world is better than the united states. we especially like to invade a foreign country and "inform" them that they like democracy better than their old government system. most people in that country probably would much rather not change their way of life. but, you might say, the people in iraq said they were for democracy. of course they are going to say that when we are standign there with automatic machine guns threatening to kill them and rape their daughters. i seriously could not imagine living in another country and being subjected to american propaganda
there are a surprising amount of people my age(im 14) who see this and are doing their utmost to stop it, but it seems that when we elect leadership who think america is amazing, the results are disasterous

Why does it bother you that Americans take pride in themselves and their country? We work hard and fight for what we believe in. Why should we not think we are the best? Why shouldn't every country in the world want to be like us? We strive to make life better for ourselves and others the world over, why should we not be able to hold our heads high? We are not committing genocide, we are not driving planes into the buildings of other countries killing innocent people, we are out there trying to improve the quality of life for people who suffer everyday for other people's beliefs, for being told their beliefs are wrong, we stand up for ourselves and for those who cannot. We do not turn our cheeks and act like we don't see the evil in the world. We meet it head on. We ARE the best country in the world and everyone else knows it because we are the only country in the world with balls enough to show it!
