I'll be going to Vegas in march for the fourth time. I"ve never rented a car before, but thinking about doing it this time. I found some deals at $140 a week, pretty cheap i think. Think it's worth the trouble, and is it hard parking at the casino's?

The total is 140 with taxes. I'm staying at the riviera in March. I should mention that my girlfriend will be six months pregnant at the time as well.

Unless you are planning a side trip to Hoover Dam or some other place I would stick to shuttles. We took a couple of taxis to go to shows and they were not that expensive. So if you are staying on the strip and are planning most of your activities there do not rent a car.

How long are you going to be there? If you are going to be there for longer than 3 or 4 days, you might want to have a car just so that you can get to other parts of Las Vegas other than the strip and downtown. Parking at the casinos is usually good (plenty). However, getting from one casino parking lot to the next is sometimes difficult with all of the traffic and people crossing the street. The only time I use a car in Las Vegas is when I drive there myself. Otherwise, the bus, cabs, and walking work out great for me.

Yes, get a car. Shuttles are a hassle, especially when it is as cold and windy at night as it is right now (I gotta emphasize what a bummer it is waiting 20 minutes for the shuttle in the cold, windy Las Vegas nights). Not only that, but you're not going to want to drag along all that heavy outerwear while you're at the casinos just so you can stand to be outside in the cold while you wait for the bus).

Casino parking is so easy if you use valets (only costs a $2 tip to the parking attendent).

I might add that valet parking is right to the front door; unlike the monorail which can be quite a walk.

It depends on what you're planning to do in Vegas. If you're just going to be on the Strip, then it's really not worth it. Parking is not usually an issue at the casinos on the strip - all of them have Valet and they all have self-parking garages which are fine too.

I rent a car in Vegas because I go visit friends - some in Henderson, some near UNLV - and it would just cost too much to cab it everywhere.

If you are staying downtown, I would say yes rent the car. That way you can go to the Strip, Hoover Dam and other places. If you are staying on the Strip and have no intention of going downtown, forget the car. . The monorail will take you from one end of the Strip to the other for $3.00, unless they raised it. If you still want to go to Hoover Dam there are bus tours that circumvent the traffic problems and take you right up to the dam. Remember that the $140 deal; will probably be close to $300 at the end of the rental due to taxes, fees and the CDW.

Parking is usually easy at most casinos. Most offer complimentary valet, please be sure to tip the attendants. I live in Las Vegas and will warn you that we have the worst drivers and highest accident rates. Make sure you know all the back roads so that you don't have to drive on the strip. If you call your destination for directions they will usually give you the easiest route. With your girl/wife being pregnant I think the car would be more comfortable than waiting for a bus and possibly having to stand.

Unless you're planning on leaving the "strip" on numerous occasions, or to see more of the area like Hoover Dam, a day trip north to the Valley of Fire, or trips like that, a car isn't necessary. You can catch a cab at any casino in Vegas. (Cabs will not pick you up on the street, however)

Parking itself is not hard at all...all casinos have parking areas/garages and parking is free.

You would probably be better off just using your money for some cool shows and gambling, the shuttles are cheap, if you need to go long distances you can take a cab or ride the bus. If you plan on site seeing then rent a car.

Unless you particularly want to see Hoover Dam or outlying areas, the action is all on the strip, good shopping malls, etc.
Consider cost of gasoline, parking, tipping...
