how to verify check written to me has sufficient funds?

Present it to the teller in the Bank its drawn on...if you took an out of area/bank check this could be difficult. YOu might just have to deposit it and hope.

take it to the bank that it is written on and they can cash it if not ,then the funds are insufficient

there's a machine that you can buy and use from your bank that can take it automatically out of their accounts and into yours. Otherwise just get their license info. and trust that they do.
