Unfortunately these exotic pets are not suitable for our climate and in any case in many cases they are just bought as a whim without any thought and consideration as to their welfare.

Exotic animals should not be captured from the wild and sold as pets. Some exotic pets have never had freedom and would not survive in the wild. These kind of animals should only be kept as pets if the owner has the correct equipment to look after them. Would zoo's also be classed as keeping exotic pets?

It depends. Imagine you are a pet shop keeper. You know that rich people will get their kids what they want. So if he/she wants a snake then they will probably buy a snake for £80 or so. This means you get a VERY big profit if you own; parrots, snakes, lizards, rare dogs/cats etc, fish( piranas) insects, mice, ferrets, etc

On the other hand these animals should be in the wild enjoying there life where they should be as mother nature intended having a family and doing what their insincts insist. However in the wild they can get killed by hunters for their fur, skin and meat for what ever reasons.

So from my argument with my self I havn't a clue but I hope you have some idea!

Merry Christmas!!!!!

No. The government doesn't have a right to ban all stores from selling cats and dogs just because some aren't careful of where the animals come from. People are too quick to look to the government for help when instead they should look to themselves and their neighbors. If there's a store in your neighborhood that sells cats and dogs, first find out where they are getting the animals. If they are coming from mills, try starting a grassroots campaign to get the store to stop giving money to the mills; involve your friends and neighbors. Start a website and get help from outside sources.

I know my views are not shared by many..if any... people, but I don't think it is healthy for people to keep pets at all. I believe the urge to keep animals in some sort of subserviant role is a fundamental indication of psycholoical imbalance.

I've never met a 'pet owner' who did not display some symptoms of unresolved relationship issues that manifested in barely controlled rage.

So the answer to your question is yes, but I would go a little further and prosecute anyone who refused treatment for their little 'animal problem'.

Why do you want to have the government controlling so much of your life. What about people that feel no one should own a pet. Or what about thoise that think private cars/motorcycles etc should be banned. Where does this refusal to take personal responsibility end. Maybe the government can pick your wife and decide if you are allowed to breed.
In government less = more.

I agree, but why stop with "exotic" pets, I don't understand why people want to share their homes with any other species. I respect animals far too much to make them live by my rules

I don't believe they should be banned from sale but I do believe people should be vetted first. When you buy a dog from a shelter they visit you're home first and do follow up. I can't see why nothing like that can't done for exotic pets. They shouldn't be readily available in high street pet shops.

You are soooooooo correct. A friend keeps a tortoise in a big glass tank with newspaper on the bottom and has a lettuce leave in there with some water, I tell her it's not how they live in the wild but she says when he's bigger he'll be worth something. Poor thing.
