Last week a co-worker was talking mid-east politics (his birth region) and mentioned that she was glad that 9/11 happened. This immediately got the attention of everyone, I tried to change the subject to keep peace, but this lady kept on. She said that it was justified for what had happened to various people in the mid-east because of the American mid-east involvement. Someone asked her, "Well what about the innocent people in the planes and buildings?". She flat out said "I don't care about them". Later in the day she was overheard saying the same thing to a supervisor when someone complained about her. Was it really wrong what she did? Some of the employees are planning to circulate a petition to get her fired (they are so mad....including the guy who lost a brother in the WTC).

ok, i notice you said " his birth region", but the rest is all in female form when talking about this. first off this person shouldn't say , comments like that at the work place, politics and relgion are almost always never allowed for reasons like this... ppl get mad and blow up. secondly there is never any reason for killing innocent ppl , no matter what.3 all wars end up with alot of ppl dead , with noone really changing their opinion, minus wars are bad.... and hurt everyone.
i realize u might trying to be protect the sex of this person , which is cool, but most women would never say anything like this.
so i question the sex of this person, sure u might say its a typo, but was it really.......

Of course she was wrong to say that terrorism is the attacking of innocents to gain attention those innocents didn't do anything to Al Quaeda or those people that suffered in the middle east according to your friend that was through the US government not those people killed by 9/11 what your friend is saying is disrespectful to the people who died your friend says 'I dont care about them ' well then why should anyone care about her and the garbage shes talking
the fact is innocents who had nothing to do with Al Quaedas quarrel with the US were killed and even if the US killed middle eastern innocents(which I sincerely doubt unless you count when the soldiers attacked innocents without permission from their superiors or civillians being caught in the cross fire which only happens because middle easterns use guerrila warfare and dont dare fight out in the open because the US troops would quickly annihalate them) 2 wrongs dont make a right and this one definitely didn't as it sparked more middle eastern controversy, more muslim rascism , the iraq war , the inspiration for the july 7th bombings in London and even if you remove the consequences it was murder in the first place and murder is never justified especially unprovoked mass murder

Hmmm.. I don't agree with what your co-worker said but evidently she has very strong feelings about it. Does she know how many people from the mid-east were killed in those buildings?...

Perhaps she wants tyrannical leaders in the mid-east to grow up into people like Hitler and then start larger wars...

I would not want to see her fired.. she might just be ignorant of why we do many of the things we do over there (besides just for the oil that American companies explored and found).. or.. if she really is trying to spread hate and discontent.. if she gets fired then she can draw un-employment.. in that case it is much more effective to lower the number of hours she works per week down until she is only working part-time.

As an HR professional, I can say that politics and religion are two things that do not belong in the workplace. While I will defend her right to have her opinion (Even though its the American Constitution which allows her to speak her mind, yet she seems to be opposed to its basic principle by lauding a group of people which denounces America and its values) that being said, in most companies there is generally a policy in place which allows for the discipline of an employee who "creates discord in the workplace". If her superior can show that her actions are creating a lack of harmony and/or discord in the workplace then she can be written up and if it continues, terminated. It is important to note however, that the opposing view (however popular) cannot be allowed to continue in the workplace. If she is fired or disciplined for her actions and others are allowed to continue speaking on the opposing view, then she may have a very legitimate case for a wrongful termination or discrimination lawsuit. My best advice is to keep these types of conversations outside of the workplace.

The notion of right and wrong is a fairly vague notion, but your co-worker is definitely rude and callous. She might have good reasons to say that 9/11 was inevitable or even deserved, and she can argue all day about the politics of US involvement in the United States. However, it is rude to not consider the feelings of the people who knew people that lost lives in the tragedy and not at least preface her argument with something saying that she's merely talking about the politics of the event and not the people itself. If she doesn't apologize or recognize that she is hurting other people, regardless of whether she was right or wrong, it is reasonable grounds for termination just for unnecessarily causing commotion in the workplace. It's kind of like someone who always cusses in the workplace. It's not "wrong," per se, but it is rude and justifiable grounds for termination.

OF course she was wrong---What would happen if you had esposed those types of veiw---She probably doesn't even realize that if she went HOME- where ever that is-she'd more than likely be encarcerated or worse for critizing her gov and fellow workers.
I hope that by now your management has taken action and done some thing about her unwarranted workplace behavior-Bet she also spends a lot of Co. time on personal time too-know the type. But we gotta protect their rights so you can't say what she did in the same enviroment----DOUBLE STANDARD!!!!
Some people are just nut cases and she sounds like One or she needs to get _aid !

We all have freedom of speech and it is good to voice ones opinions, but i think some things are better left unsaid.Especially such crucial issues.I dont think she should have been so vocal about such an issue..especially about the innocent people that died.
Sometimes Silence is indeed Golden. If i were there i would gladly sign the petition

Bush has dealt with the 9/11 victims and their households an analogous way he's dealt with the region with our returning infantrymen and their households. The victims of Katrina have not performed so properly the two. What different information do people want that mr. bush does not care approximately the familiar public of the folk in this u . s .? I found out as an extremely youthful newborn that "movements communicate LOUDER THAN words".

Of course she was wrong to say that. It's a very stupid thing to say, especially considering so many people that had nothing to do with the conflicts she referred to, died in 9/11.Not to mention insensitive as one of your co-workers lost a brother in the WTC.

She must be one of those loving Christian women who also believes that loving Jesus Christ justifies slaughtering all of the Muslims......these ancient wars are still being fought today.....sorry to say....these people and these issues go a little further than one little unimportant comment from your little co-worker there hon......there are more people in your own federal government that believe 911 was justified....you gonna petition them to be fired too? (she's making a point...but she is wrong to think any death is justified.....thumbs down to her) You see, America is also justified in going over there and making the civil war in Iraq worse; and inadvertantly (not really) by making Iran stronger and scarier for the people in Iraq; yea America! We're justified and we're pretty happy about sending our troops over there to defend and die for that little bit of justification.......come on, in the big picture , we're just like your co-worker.....don't you get it? Everyone is wrong in this situation; it is a LOSE-LOSE situation...and it's all over money greed and power ...and you're going to love this everyone: People are wrong for supporting our troops in battle over there; we are not wrong to support them when they come home. Can your brains process that thought?
