Invincible, starring Mark Wahlberg.
True story about a 30-yr old bartender/substitute teacher who tried out for the Philly Eagles. Inspirational (not just a sports movie), with good shots of an NFL practice and on-field action.
Afterwards, read the Wikipedia article on the (true-life) character, Vince Papale.
(Rudy, starring Sean Astin is still a better sports true-story film because of its more satisfying script.)

For good comedy - that your girlfriend will appreciate, watch "Little Miss Sunshine" . Not much action - just hilarious.

A History of Violence... best film of the year, easily.. You're girlfriend will like it cos of Vito Mortgenson, and it's a great action thriller..
