it was a movie about a figure skater who needed a partner and this guy who was a hockey player ended up being her partner. Of course they fall in love but at the end of the movie one is on an airplane that crashes and the person dies(can't remember if it was him or her)

I'm not sure what movie that is sounds similar to the cutting edge, but like everyone said that movie was made in the 90 and Doug didn't die at the end.
