HIV not only attacks the homosexual community, but the heterosexual community as well. It is transmitted through the exchange of bodily fluids as in unprotected sexual intercourse, blood transfusions from an infected person and sharing a needle from an infected person.
You cannot contract HIV by shaking hands with an infected person or hugging them. I hugged a gay male in the early days of HIV before much was known about the disease and I am still HIV negative.
How HIV started is anyone's guess. I feel that it is a bio-weapon that big brother was developing that was accidentally released and is now out of control.
AZT is a medication to combat the effects of the disease often with crippling and sometimes fatal results.
HIV know no boundaries and discriminates against no one.

You don't get HIV/AIDS by being gay. You get it by having unprotected sex with someone (of the same or opposite sex, doesn't matter) who is already HIV positive or who already has AIDS.
The reason people say that gay people started the HIV disease is because close to 100% of the first cases in the USA were gay men. However, these same people show ignorance of the fact that HIV/AIDS was already an epidemic amongst the entire population (gay and straight) in certain parts of Africa before it started spreading in the USA.
Also, in the beginning, it wasn't called HIV/AIDS by the USA medical community. It was called gay cancer. This name contributed to the stigma that only gay men could get infected. The misnomer contributed to the spread of the disease into the straight population, many of whom felt that they couldn't get it because they are straight and, therefore, did not protect themselves.
AZT is a drug that boosts the immune system in some people who have HIV.

You can only get HIV from someone's body fluids (blood, spinal fluid, sexual fluids). Shaking hands is safe. AZT is one of the treatments; I don't know too much about it beyond that.
As for why people think gay people "started" HIV: the virus entered the U.S. through the gay population. Worldwide, the statistics are pretty even between straight people and gay people, but when it first came out the only thing people in the US knew about it was a list of symptoms shared by all gay men.

You don't get if from being gay, you get it from exchanging body fluids i.e. having sex, with an infected person.
The reason some people consider it a "gay" disease is because it first showed up in the US primarily in the gay community. See, back in the 80's, condoms were not used as often as they are now. So a lot of diseases were being passed around. Most STDs are easily curable. We heard more about AIDS because it killed a lot of people and there is still no known cure.
As for AZT, I don't know, I suggest you use your computer skills to find it in the internet.

HIV is a fluid to fluid disease!
AIDS is the result of a low TCell count caused by HIV
You can contract HIV through---
1. unprotected sex (although condoms are not always helpful anyway)
2. Blood (fluid) exchange
3. Intravenous Drug use
According to recent study, the people who have it the most are actually straight African American Females!
No one is safe (gay, straight, white, black or blue) from this life altering disease!
Just be as protected as possible and know your partner's history! And be tested for STDs at least once every six months!

Right now the #1 group for getting aids is not gays. Its not lesbians. Its straight people.
By the end of 2003, an estimated 42 million around the world were living with HIV/AIDS. During the year, 5 million people became infected and an estimated 3 million people died.
The 5 million new infections in 2003 include an estimated 600,000 to 700,000 children, over 90% of who were infected through mother-to-child transmission (MTCT).
In the 45 most affected countries, an estimated 68 million people will die prematurely because of AIDS during the two decades between 2000 and 2020.
More than 70 percent of those infected live in sub-Saharan Africa.
Sub-Saharan Africa, the worst affected region, is now home to 29.4 million people living with HIV/AIDS. In 2002, 3.5 million were infected, and an estimated 2.4 million Africans died.
About one-third of people living with HIV/AIDS are 15-24 years of age.
To date, the AIDS pandemic has left behind more than 14 million orphans, more than 92 percent of who live in Africa.
More than 7 million people in Asia and the Pacific are living with HIV/AIDS.
In seven African countries, 20% or more adults (defined as people aged 15-49 years) are estimated to be infected with HIV/AIDS.
According to the latest estimates by UNAIDS, more than US$10 billion will be needed in 2005 to pay the cost of effective prevention, treatment, care and support programs in low- and middle-income countries.
Now with all the kids and the orphans.. does that sound like Gay people to you?

You can't get AIDS simply by being Gay. You have to have sex(exchange bodily fluids) with a person that already has the disease to be infected.
The reason that so many try to claim AIDS is from being gay is that when it finally came to America it was found/spread in the Gay Male Community first. They tend to forget it had been found in Africa, unidentified, 10 years or more before it ever came to our shores.
AZT is a drug that was invented to help combat AIDS.

Aids originally came from Africa. People of all races, gays, straights, none of the above through blood transfusions, ect ect get and have aids. You cant get aids soley by being gay,you have to have unprotected sex with someone with aids. Or some other sexual act. I read a research study indicating, however, that overall homosexuals tend to be more promiscuous and less likely to use protection. This was only recent.

gay people didn't start AIDS. You can get AIDS from a lot of thing. Oral, vaginal, and anal sex can give you AIDS. Basically, you can get AIDS from any activity that shares bodily fluids except for kissing.
Some people blame AIDS on homosexuals, but the reality is that ANYONE can get AIDS if they don't use protection. Yes, that means that you should use condoms for oral sex. You may not want to, but which would you rather have? a few moments of intense pleasure that result in years of suffering, or less pleasure but many many many more years of it?

The reason people associate homosexuality with AIDS is because of anal sex but thats really not true. In fact its very difficult for lesbians to transmit AIDS to each other.
You can only get AIDS by sharing bodily fluids: 1) sharing needles
2) unprotected sex 3) being born to mother with AIDS
You CANNOT get AIDS from kissing, shaking hands, toilet seats, etc.
AIDS was originally developed in a labratory as a vaccine to boost the immunity of Africans. They didn't realize what they had craeted until they had given it to many many people.
