I recommend Geocities, Freewebs, or Moonfruit. There's not much flexibility getting a free website though. It'll be way less stressful (but a little more expensive) setting up your site and maintaining it on your personal domain.

Yes you can go to geo cities or xanga or bravenet. But to be honest most free websites don't get very much publicity. There's a price for being famous!
