I have to agree about Xanth, if you like fantasy.
You might try Sherilynn Fenn. There's a series of Dark Hunter novels - I've read two so far. They are romance and a bit of adventure, with werewolves, vampires, demons and yes, dark hunters. Fun!
Mysteries - there's a whole group that are often referred to as "cozy mysteries". I just sold a group on eBay - some of the authors were: Dorothy Gilman (Mrs. Pollifax series), Tamar Myers, Diane Mott Davidson, Monica Ferris. I also hear people like Sue Grafton. I read one where the sleuth was a young woman that ended up being able to see dead people - and she had to solve their mysteries. I don't remember the author, but the main character was named Pepper Martin. It was light and fun.

If you like mysteries and you like cats, "The Cat Who...." series by Lillian Jackson Braun is funny, light and a quick read.
If you like humor, any of the Dave Barry books are great. I particularly recommend "Dave Barry's Guide to Guys."
If you like fantasy, Piers Anthony's Xanth books are also light and funny, with lots of puns and wordplay.

I would recommend you try "Pay It Forward" by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It's got some substance, but it's not a difficult book to read at all, and it will leave you feeling good.
