Internet Explorer is not working on my wife's laptop. I click on the IE icon and the page starts to open up to her starting page but the bottom 80% of the page is blank. I'm not able to make anything work by clicking on it. I can't even close the window by clicking on the 'X'. The bar graph on the bottom of the page shows that the page is half loaded but that's where it stops. I can only shut it down by the "control - alt - delete" method.

Her wireless signal reads; Excellant.

Windows Task Manager > Networking > Adapter Name > Local Area Connection > Network Utilization = 0%; Link Speed = 10 Mbps; State = Non Operational

Windows Task Manager > Networking > Adapter Name > Wireless Network > Network Utilization = 0%; Link Speed = 11 Mbps; State = Operational

My IE works fine on my PC.
Any ideas of what I need to do to get her IE to work again.

Thank you

Ask her to stop using IE and switch over to Firefox. Free download from http://www.mozilla.com/

Tip: Always keep IE as your default browser, though.

Something in your IE intallation seem to be corrupted/damaged. Assuming that everything else is running fine, try restoring the computer back to a date when it was working. To do this click start, then run. In the dialog box type msconfig then click ok. Click the Lauch System Restore button, then select "Restore my computer to an earlier time", then click next. Pick a date that the computer was working fine for internet explorer. If you don't know, then guess what it is. Click next. Then click next again confirm the date. Please note that any programs that were installed after the date selected will be erased and will need to be reinstalled. This process will not cause you to loose any data such as documents, music, or pictures. If Internet Explorer doesn't work on the selected date, then pick another restore date that was earlier than the date that you chose. Do this until you find one that will make internet explorer work. In this situation you cannot reinstall internet explorer because it is an online installation that must be done with the web browser, which won't work because your web browser is broken. I hope this helps.

From what you've described it sounds like IE is encountering some kind of error when it's launched. Perhaps the computer is infected with some spyware or malware that's trying to run along with IE and it's causing it to hang or encounter problems. I'd try to use AdAware or Spybot Search & Destroy to fully scan her machine and make sure nothing's detected that shouldn't be there.

If not, then it could be a legitimate add-on to IE such as a toolbar or other extension/plug-in that runs within IE that's causing issues. Look in Add/Remove programs for an entry of some software that might have been installed that works with or in IE.

Good luck.

sounds like a windows registry problem. the problem is definately locally on her machine and isnt caused by any network device. You might very well need to do a fresh install of windows to get IE up back and running.

could be many things, i would advise doing a full spyware scan using software like adaware SE, windows defender and spybot.
all are free programs to download and use.
also if your using a wireless connection this could be causing an issue as well if its not getting a valid ip address from the router to get connected hope this helps

U would wanna placed the win xp disk in, load up the setup and boot from the disk, formatt the force D and dont proceed with setting up, restart, bypass decrease back to the setup, selec force C and enable it restoration it. sounds like u or ur pal tried to put in the os lower back, it have been given puzzled and set the force D for setting up. So what happened over there is it somewhat is going to attempt to load up the hot os which instalation technique canceled some how. So, u could do away with the single in force D. U can in basic terms would wanna format the force D and re-set up the xp on C with out formatting (restoration it). the reason via formatting the D is to determine that as quickly as u restoration it, u wont restoration the single in force D, u will restoration thr unique one.
