It is frequently around pond areas. However I can't imagine signs advertising a backyard bog unless they use it for sightseeing purposes. It is usually a wetland area although you can make you own bog garden, without the pond.

I live in the northern most regions of what is called the South and I don't see this here. Possibly the first answer is entirely correct and it is a type of playground but I think it probably refers to a constructed wetland sort of thing. A habitat for marsh grasses and flowers and frogs.

The teens tend to take their 4 wheelers and run through the water, mud and juck getting completely filthy. Kinda like muddin... HS kids will race their trucks through bogs... some have developed a route, course to complete. They are usually held on swamp land. They see who is the most dirty, quickest.. Have even seen girls vs guys bogs. It's just a mud fight

I have heard that there are many places in Louisiana with swampy land perfect for Siberian Iris, etc....so I don't necessarily think it has to be a place where no flowers grow.
