My wife used to keep the empty disposable cans and bottles of food in the store utill they become big heaps.This has been always a source of quarrel between us?

No there is not...

It is either lazyness or she thought she might have some use for them at some stage. Many people dread throwing things out in case they might need them later on.

Are you asking "What are the psychological aspects of this behavior? Of course there are. Just what they are depends on many factors. The important one is why is this causing you to quarrel with her. In what way does this bother you? And try discussing it with her to see if she can modify in some way to make you feel more at ease. If not then what or why does she do this and what importance is this behavior to her. The quarreling is probably the most important thing to stop.

It's called hoarding and may be part of obsessive-compulsive disorder. I've actually heard of it being the main cause of a divorce and know someone who went to counseling for it.

it is part of obsessive-comulsive disorder , somethingshe does subconciously , not something you can change yourself or herself without proper counseling. you must be understanding of this.
