I think celebrities really do care about their charties. They dedicate time and money to them, which makes more people want to help out that certain charity.
Yes, I'm sure certain celebrities just do it for the publicity. But I try to think the best about everyone. Atleast their helping people out as their helping their own selves out.

It really depends on the charity. You are right of course, the majority of celebrities couldn't care less about their chosen charity and probably were forced into donating by their publicists. I mean, when they have that much money what harm is it to give a fraction of it away when the outcome is looking like a saint. However there are the few rare celebrities that honestly do care for their charities, theses are the people that get involved as well as just give money away. Take Christina Aguilera for example; she does a lot to help support domestic abuse charities and raises a lot of awareness, she definitely cares.

You do have those such as Oprah who I do believe is trying to do good for people. Marlo Thomas has the "St Jude's Children's Research Hospital". It was started by her father Danny Thomas as a prayer and promise to St. Jude for helping him become a successful actor. That charity is legitimate. Bob Barker caring for pets is legitimate as well.
Yet you DO have some celebs getting involved in something solely for the publicity of it all as well as looking for a tax break.

i think some celebrities just do it for publicity but then i think some do it because they have the money and these people dont so then they try to help them......but i think that it's always televised because press is always up in celebrities business...i mean it would be hard for people not to know that celebrities help out with the less fortunate....

I think it depends on the actor. Some actors are not really out there and talk about their charities. They do it quitely. They are doing it quitely because they want to do it becasue they are passoniaet about the subject mader that the charity is about, like Mariska Hargitay, which she is passoniate about sexual assualt and assualt that is why she opened her own organization and she does this quietly . A person would only know about what she is doing because thay are fans of hers.

they are doing things for publicity because they want as many fans as they can get, at least that's what i think. I'm glad i've never bought a cd or dvd movie or anything or even songs that celebrities make, i'm glad i'm not a fan of neither one of them.lol

yes, that makes me wonder too. and then, everyone praises them for contributing a million dollars but c'mon what is a million dollars to them when they make 20 million per movie??? that annoys me to no end. if they really want to make a difference then, contribute something that they can actually feel if they want the attention and if not do it anonymously. it is fishy. i agree with you!
