BEFORE YOU DO:
Memory is your RAM not the Hard Drive Space. (this is one of the most commonly misnamed computer terms.)

When looking for a HD internal or external try to look for a HD with atleast 80GB of space and it spins at 7200RPM. I have an external drive since my laptop only holds 20GB. (which is hardly enough to run windows XP and all my vital software.)
The HD i have is Western Digital 80 GB 5400RPM Portable HD.Now yes i know it is 5400RPAM,but my dad didn't bring me with him so i can get a good HD. I have had this HD for about 1 year now. and i have droped it once. from about 1 or 2 Feet, and its still working great.

ALSO there are downsides to an external HD.
Running big programs and games may lag since it is not directly on the motherboard and has to send data via USB 2.0

You can run your programs from an external hard drive the same way you would with an internal hard drive. They're indistiguishable from the computer's point of view.

You can run a program from an external hard drive, as long as it's connected to the computer correctly.
