Reiki does more than release emotions. What you feel after Reiki is the very relaxed state of being. The person receiving the treatment will be so relaxed, its common for them to fall asleep. The person channeling the Reiki will have a similar reaction. Both people are experincing the energy that heals. After a few hours of channeling Reiki it is common to feel fatigued. Take a break, drink some water, go outside and walk for a while. We don't get an abundance of this energy every day, so it can be overwhelming to the system. The only other thing I can think of is make sure you are shielding yourself from unwanted energy from the other person. Absorbing energy from another person can make problems for you.

the answer to your question is:
yes,
sometimes and
no
it all depends on the practitioner and, of course, the client. some people feel worn out after an emotional release - others feel energised.

PS i really don't know why people in yahoo answers consistently claim to believe that reiki is all hogwash, yet spend their time answering questions posted by other users. i might ask a question about this myself.

there's no set answer as it all depends on the individual. from my experience, though, most people i work with have felt worn out.

Remember that there is no set "rule" though on how anyone should feel

If what you are feeling is a loss of energy rather then feeling relaxed, please make sure you are well grounded before channeling reiki (very important! ) and that you are not using any of your own energy. Personally I feel great (calm and relaxed) after sending reiki and just wonderful after giving an attunement.

If you are receiving Reiki, it is natural you might feel enervated afterwards. It's always good to give oneself a little recovery time before the body's energy restabilises and (usually) increases.
If you are a practitioner and feeling depleted after a session, then you are using, at least in part, your own energy and not the Rei (universal) Ki (energy).

loki's on track. i've been doing reiki for 20 years and teaching it for 13. results of receiving the energy vary from person to person; we all react differently. nevertheless, after emotional release, notwithstanding the transient (and somewhat unpleasant?) tiredness, the benefits of having experienced that relief/release are usually clearly experienced and appreciated.

I don't believe in Reiki. I find it a big hype.
