She's 8 months old now and black & white with light brown hair that's also somewhat orange in the sun.
Even I (the white part) have wavy hair.
Will she stay the way she is now?
No, it's not important - I'm just curious.

Are there any good conditioners for babies available, w/o harsh chemicals and fragrance?

My son ( 3 1/2 ) is mixed, black and white, too, and he had straight hair til about 8 months, and then, like overnight, it started to curl up. BUT, his hair was very long at birth and stayed really long. His hair has completely taken after me ( white mama ) It feels JUST like a white person's hair, but it's got long, soft, big, loopy curls. They aren't tight and coarse. But most mulatto's end up having curly hair, it just takes longer for some to grow into it.

As far as 'stuff' to put into the hair, all I've ever used for him is some leave in conditioner. I wash his hair everyday, and then before it's all dry I put some conditioner in ( about the size of a quarter ) and brush it.

There are anecdotes on the web which say straight hair may become curly and skin colour may change as a baby ages.

For a quick foray into the genetics of this, see the article cited below, according to which it appears likely your child will have wavy hair, assuming your partner has genuinely curly hair.

Your baby's hair texture probably won't change until the age of 2. But at the same time her hair texture might not ever change. It's weird, I know. My daughter is 2yrs old and her hair is curly but smooth. I'm black but a medium complexion and so his her dad, but she is light-skinned and she looks like she is mixed with black and white but she's not. Genetics just work like that. Oh, and I use Baby Johnson & Johnson Shampoo for her hair.

My sisterr has 3 bi-racial children each with different hair colors and types... It is entirely possible her hair will remain straight...

My sister ran into a problem with her youngests hair (Its straight but wiry) it was breaking off after growing to about 2 inches long.. She started using Pantene pro-v conditioner and the breaking stopped....

If you have a similar problem you may want to speak with a hairdresser who specializes in ethnic hair... I do know from watching my sister there are special products used by african americans for special ethnic hair issues...

Talk your childs grandmother if possible she may be able to suggest products or a hairdresser who specializes in ethnic hair..

Usually by one year they have their regular hair.

Genetics are fun things. She just might have straight hair, and not kinky or curly. Or even wavey.

It sounds cute. I had wispy sea anemone hair until I was four. Eventually it got a little wavier.

No way of knowing, remember she's getting genes from your parents and beyond so it's not just you that she's a descendent of.
