It seems to be a trend these days to send out "Newsletters" in leiu of cards, etc on the holidays. Typically they detail the persons accomplishments, throw in a few "challenges" that were easily overcome (adds authenticity to the newsletter), and some nice acceptable hopes for the future. What do you think of these??? Do you find them nothing more than family "propaganda".....a way to sugar coat everyone's life and make things look rosy. I mean has anyone ever sent one out that dealt with real issues like bankruptcy, sexual problems, substance abuse, etc.........

I think they're nice. I get one from my aunt and uncle every year (in a card) and I find it nice to know what's happening with them and my cousins and their kids who I rarely get to see anymore. And even when I do see them once every year or two there are usually SO many other relatives to see as well that I never get the same amount or quality of information that I get in the newsletter. Oh, and I don't really want to hear all the nasty things in their lives. Some things should be PRIVATE. I know I don't want all my relatives to know the bad or sad things about me. This isn't the entertainment world and the newsletters are not supposed to be greasy tabloids like The Enquirer or something. Please...it is Christmas afterall.

Family Newsletters are used by many families that find themselves spread all over the place. We have a person in our family that puts one out every year near christmas time.
Although this year it probably will not arrive as they have moved very recently having purchased a cattle ranch and more than likely too darn busy to do it this year.
Our family is huge, we all use to get together in a re-union setting several times a year. But since the grand parents passed away ( the hosts of the re-union) the family has drifted apart dramatically.
The news letter helps many of us stay in touch while the other's don't quite find it helpful. If you don't have a family newsletter how bout starting one of your own.

I think it's great that families have had nothing but stellar positive accomplishments all year. I've never gotten one of those letters that said "Dad is drinking heavy again, Mom gained 50 pounds, sister's got her own street corner, brother's a junkie" etc. Maybe a few of those would make the others more bearable. Merry Christmas!

I think they suck. I would rather get a card signed with just their names, than some stupid newsletter telling me they went to Sea World in June and got sunburned, and little Jr. finally got potty trained in October. Honestly, most of the stuff they write about...who cares?? If they are sick, someone died, or they are coming to visit, moving, etc. That I want to know about. The fact that they won the turkey at the church raffle this year, I could live without. What a bunch of rambling CRAP!! Just send me the Christmas card. Or better yet...SEND MONEY!!

I agree with you, but you know what they say about people who brag all the time. Their life is really no different than anyone else's. I never got a letter like that this year, maybe now all my friends and relatives are in my same boat. Ha.

I hate them too! I'd rather not hear from them at all than to hear all the great stuff they accomplished throughout the year. My cousin sends one via email and it's always about what a great dad her husband is, how successful her kids are etc.
Sorry, mine are cuter, smarter, and more popular. But, I don't brag about it : )
