America is ready to elect a black president, says Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The nation's highest-ranking black government official, Rice has said repeatedly she will not run for president despite high popularity ratings and measurable support in opinion polls.

"Yes, I think a black person can be elected president," Rice said in an Associated Press interview Thursday.

I would vote for any candidate I felt would do a good job regardless of their race.

I personally would as long as they are the best person for the job. The fact is that equal rights is still "relatively" new. Many people of that generation that enacted the Civil Rights act of 1965 are still alive and sadly enough some won't accept it fully and we're brought up with different vaules. A 16 years old that lived in 1965 would be a "mere" 58 years old today.
As new generations come into the world and are taught not to discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, then they will be raised with those values in mind and it's very likely that those generations will elect a black president.

The best candidate should win. Color should hold no bearing, however; The U. S. seems to still be holding onto the race issue. Like the voting issue, I think we will have a black male as President before we have a female. As for this election, I would advise Sen. Obama to gain some political experience before jumping in with the big fish!

If the person shared what I believe in politically, and if the person has good common sense and a knowledge of world affairs and has shown good problem solving and policy making in whatever political career they've had so far, then of course I would vote for him or her. (I do have to say that Condoleeza Rice would not be a choice of mine though, I disagree with pretty much everything that comes out of her mouth, and I have to look at the track record of the president she has served under, and assume she shares many of his philosophies. I do believe she is an intelligent woman though).

I would vote for anyone that I thought was qualified to do the job. Skin color does not play a factor for me....in fact I always thought that Morgan Freeman would be a wonderful president. (just kidding...I don't know what his political views are)
I do have to say that I have reservations about voting for a woman for president....generally women think on an emotional level while men think on a logical level.
Have a Wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year!

I don't know if the world is ready. I would vote for whomever is logical and has a good platform anymore. A year in combat has taught me that. I think Condoleezza is too much of a Bush stoolie. That isn't a good thing. I would hope the world would be ready, but I just don't think so.

I think a Black person has more chance of election than a female at this time.

Would I vote for a Black person? Yes, if I felt that person was the best candidate based on experience and vision, but not on the color of their skin.

Absolutely. The color of a person's skin has nothing to do with their abilities, or lack of abilities, to lead. If a black, or female, or Asian-American or whatever runs for president and presents their case to make this country better....and doesn't sound like a total liar or egomaniac, I'll vote for them. We've had enough white male egomaniacs for a while.

I am not sure I would vote for a black president. I don't think I would base my decision on the person's color at all.

I would vote for whichever candidate I felt would do the most good.

I would have a hard time voting for Rice based on what I know about her thus far.

If the person is a modern American then maybe. However, if they act like most black presidents/prime ministers/statespersons around then world watch out world. Then again you had Nixon and he was more corrupt than most but America survived.

David Palmer!!

BTW The USA would never allow a Black person to become President and if they did he/she would be assassinated... America is too intolerant a country to allow anyone other than a white person become President..
