Interesting that the first three answers should be from men....
I believe that feminism has become a "dirty word" in today's culture. Even women who seek equality in the workforce and other areas are afraid to associate themselves with feminism because of negative connotations (like some of the answers on here).

To me, a feminist today is someone that is aware of their equal status to men and is willing to take action if they are being discriminated against because of their sex.

I am a mother of two that chose to stay home with my children during the early years. Some people believe that this goes against feminist ideals. However, because of feminism, I actually had a choice. To me, that is what feminism is all about.

I think it means being a proud, strong capable and independent woman. It isn't like it used to be with protests and things, today's feminists speak out against inequality through music (Ani DiFranco is a good example) or art, or getting involved in programs and activites that promote equality for all human beings, it means appreciating and never forgetting or taking for granted what past feminists and suffragists(see the movie Iron Jawed Angels or better yet read the books that inspired the film) have accomplished for what women have today and striving to continue that goal.

obviously some of the same stereotypes of feminists are alive today. i am proud to be a feminist which just means i am pro-woman. i don't think men should be below women nor do i hate men. i just think that women are still treated unfairly and looked upon as sex objects in society today.

it's sad that being identifying yourself as a "feminist" is still something that needs to be defended.

I am Male. Here is my personal answer.

A Feminist is a woman that supports women rights (as well as human rights for everyone) at home and through-out the nation and the world. Brave, strong, sticks to her morals and values.

A Feminist today can not be defined as merely being pro-choice, lesbian, or "man-like", that is not only a complete generalization it is also prejudice and very offensive.

Just look at the reactions of the leaders of the 'feminist' movement when Bill Clinton was President and I think you'll have the answer to your question.
